Two John Doe investigations, beginning in 2010 and ending in 2015, were launched by Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm (D) into the activities of staff and associates of Gov. Scott Walker (R).[2] At the time of the first John Doe investigation, Pierick was the domestic and business partner of Tim Russell, who had been Walker's deputy chief of staff during Walker's time as Milwaukee County Executive. [3][4][5][6]

Russell became one of the targets of the first John Doe investigation. On November 1, 2010, one day before the election for governor, investigators executed warrants for the computers in the county executive's office.[7] In December, after Walker won the election, the investigation continued with more search warrants and subpoenas, including search warrants that were executed on Tim Russell's house and real estate office.[8]

Prosecutors found evidence that incriminated Pierick on phones and computers that were seized during the investigation into Russell. On January 5, 2012, Russell and Pierick were charged. Pierick was charged with two felony counts.[9][10][11] Pierick pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count.[10][12]
