|Caleb Hemmer is a native Nashvillian with a history of service to our city and state. As a former aide to Governor Phil Bredesen and executive in the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, I learned firsthand how state government works and how to govern effectively. More recently, I served for the past seven years as a commissioner on the Metro Board of Fair Commissioners and led the redevelopment of the Nashville Fairgrounds, including a new expo center and the MLS Stadium where the Nashville Soccer Club will play in 2022. With a lengthy service record of community involvement and volunteering to improve Nashville, I plan on building on my experience to better serve the community and constituents in the 59th district.
- Healthcare is a right, not a privilege. Caleb Hemmer spends his days working to provide high-quality and affordable healthcare, he knows it’s just as important to create policies at the state level. Caleb will support proven policies backed by science and evidenced-based research.
- The people of Tennessee are feeling the effects of higher costs in their everyday lives at the gas pump and grocery checkout lines. In Nashville, we are witnessing high demand and low supply of affordable housing take a toll on the financial stability of local families. There are common-sense policies we can enact in the legislature to combat the rising cost of living to ensure working class families are given a fair chance. As a state representative, Caleb will fight to ensure sensible policies to help address inflation and holding corporate greed accountable for price gouging in our state.
- Once elected, Caleb plans to pursue: adequate funding for our public schools, expanded Pre-K, affordable college education, and the opportunity for our universities to offer STEM specialty magnet high schools throughout Tennessee. Caleb will support our teachers to ensure they have the resources, environment, and training to do their jobs effectively.
As a two-time survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Caleb is only here today thanks to the grace of God and being fortunate enough to have access to health insurance, excellent doctors, and great love and care given to me by my family. Caleb knows, through first hand experience, that life is fragile and not everyone gets so lucky. Creating healthcare policies that focus on equity, affordability, and accessibility will allow better outcomes for all of us. And as a father and someone who was provided a high-quality public education, Caleb will support pro-education policies that fully fund education. We owe it to our children, no matter who they are or what demographic they come from, to have access to the best education system.

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
