Charles Lovell

Charles Lovell is an Article III federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Montana. He joined the court in 1985 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan.
Lovell assumed senior status on June 14, 2000.[1] He assumed inactive senior status on April 7, 2021.[2]
Education
Lovell graduated from the University of Montana with his bachelor's degree in 1952 and later graduated from the University of Montana School of Law with his Juris Doctorate degree in 1959.[1]
Military service
Lovell served in the U.S. Air Force on active duty from 1952 to 1954.[1]
Professional career
Prior to joining the court, Lovell was a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Montana from 1959 to 1985. He also served as the Chief Counsel in the Office of Montana State Attorney General handling appeals in the Appellate Division from 1969 to 1972.[1]
Judicial career
District of Montana
Lovell was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on March 27, 1985, to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333. Lovell was confirmed by the Senate on April 3, 1985, and received commission on April 4, 1985. Lovell assumed senior status on June 14, 2000.[1]
