Expand all | Collapse all

Darin Smith is a fourth-generation Wyomingite who grew up a hard-nosed kid in Rock Springs and has built his life (with the love of his life, Alicia) in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Tenacious in his love for Country, Darin has been successful in business, law and as an exec with two national nonprofits.

Out of high school, Darin wrestled at the University of Wyoming. A proud Cowboy, he was an Honorable Mention Academic All-American in both 1994 and 1995.

From 2005 to the present Darin has worked as an executive and consultant with national non-profits including the Family Research Council and the Christian Broadcasting Network to contend for faith, family, and freedom in the U.S. and abroad.

Darin has maintained a successful law practice since passing the Bar in 2000. In that role, he has represented individuals, families, and corporations and has helped many people in Wyoming who couldn’t otherwise afford legal representation. He lives to fight for the underdog and for those “David versus Goliath” moments.

Darin has been active in community service including coaching wrestling and serving as a Cubmaster for a local pack, as a member of Lion’s Club, and as the volunteer children’s pastors with Alicia at their local church. Darin and Alicia have been married for 25 years and have five children who range in age from 11 to 22 years old. One son is currently attending the Naval Academy and another is at West Point.

  • Property Tax Relief I will sponsor legislation aimed at reducing the property tax burden that has been placed on our citizens by skyrocketing real estate prices. My initial proposal will advocate for the ELIMINATION of residential property taxes for the primary residence of individuals aged 65 and above. This will be coupled with an initiative to reduce (and eventually eliminate) the property tax burden for primary residences of all Wyoming citizens. By implementing these measures, I seek to deliver financial prudence while ensuring that seniors can maintain their homes and community connections. Go to www.wytaxreform.com to learn more about how we will achieve real tax reform in Wyoming over the next decade.
  • Agriculture From beef to wheat, Wyoming has a rich and diverse agricultural industry that is vital to our State’s economy. I’ll protect our farmers from harmful regulations that impact their land use and water rights as well as their bottom line. Farmers and ranchers are the best stewards of their own land and should be the ones to determine how they farm it - not bureaucrats.
  • Energy Energy production in Wyoming is the backbone of our State's economy, sustaining generations of hardworking Wyomingites and providing reliable energy to homes and businesses across the nation. With our abundant coal reserves and vast natural gas deposits, Wyoming stands as a beacon of energy independence and security.

Pro God, Pro Life, Pro Family, Pro Energy,

An unwavering commitment to Faith, Family & Freedom. Integrity is paramount, emphasizing moral and ethical behavior aligned with conservative values. Accountability involves ensuring transparency and fiscal responsibility in government operations. Leadership entails upholding Constitutional principles and defending freedoms, including limited government intervention and free-market economics. Respect for the rule of law and a strong stance against crime and disorder are essential. Upholding traditional social norms and promoting patriotism and national sovereignty are priorities, alongside a commitment to protecting religious freedoms and Second Amendment rights and promoting policies that boost economic growth and job creation without excessive regulation.

A safe and prosperous State.

It's crucial for each branch to respect the separation of powers outlined in the State Constitution, ensuring checks and balances are upheld.

Economic growth and job creation, particularly in rural areas where industries like agriculture and energy extraction are crucial.

While previous experience can be beneficial, it's not the only factor that determines effective legislating. Personal integrity, commitment to public service, and the ability to listen to constituents are equally important qualities for legislators, regardless of their background.

2022

2016

The following issues were listed on Smith's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Second Amendment: Darin's position on Gun Rights is the same as Charlton Helston’s: they’ll take my guns “from my cold, dead hands!” Our Second Amendment freedoms are the guarantee and protectorate of all of our other Constitutional rights, especially the Freedom of Speech, which seems to be under attack in America today.
  • Life: As Dr. Seuss states in Horton Hears a Who, "A person's a person, no matter how small" (or how sick). Darin Smith believes in and will defend the sanctity of life, from the unborn to the most elderly and vulnerable.
  • Limited Government: We need to gut the federal bureaucracy and halt its unconstitutional abuse of power. Agencies like the EPA are choking out business and agriculture in America and putting a huge and unnecessary tax burden on the backs of the American people. The first step is to limit the scope of federal agency power.
  • Going on the Energy Offensive: We need to go on the energy offensive to put energy jobs back in Wyoming and position our great state to lead the nation toward energy independence. Increase the demand for natural gas by modifying publicly funded vehicle fleets in Wyoming, all the way down to the local school buses, to run on natural gas, and incentivize energy companies to do the same. Increased natural gas demand will equate to higher coal prices, which will result in more revenue for the state.
  • Congressional Accountability: Hold Congress accountable to serving the people instead of putting themselves above the people. By ending federal pensions for Congress and forcing legislators to rely on the Social Security system that most Americans do, legislators will have the incentive to shore up Social Security because it directly affects them. Also, Darin will support the bill already before Congress to dock members’ pay 10 percent each year they don’t balance a federal budget. Darin Smith will not be taking a federal pension upon his election because he feels it is immoral.
