David Gurfein was a 2016 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 4th Congressional District of New York.[1]

Gurfein graduated from Syracuse University with a B.S. in political science and speech communication and later earned his MBA from Harvard Business School. After earning his bachelor's degree, he served with the Marine Crops as a 2nd lieutenant and infantry officer. Gurfein pursued a business career at Goldman Sachs after earning his MBA, but returned to active duty in the military after the 9/11 attacks on New York. He served as congressional liaison for the Special Operations Command in Washington, D.C. He retired from active duty with the rank of lieutenant colonel. After his retirement, Gurfein returned to his business career, working as a vice president for a Five-Diamond resort in Las Vegas, CEO of a defense contracting company and a partner at a business development consulting firm. He serves as president of a health & wellness business and as a board member for a sport aircraft manufacturing business.[2]

Gurfein is married and has one daughter.[2]

Heading into the election, Ballotpedia rated this race as safely Democratic. Incumbent Kathleen Rice (D) defeated David Gurfein (R) in the general election on November 8, 2016. Neither candidate faced any opposition in the primaries on June 28, 2016.[3][4]

Gurfein was a member of the NRCC's Young Guns Program in 2016. The Young Guns program "supports and mentors challenger and open-seat candidates in races across the country."[5]
