David Trager
David G. Trager was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York. He joined the court in 1993 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. He died on January 5, 2011 at the age of 73.[1]
Early life and education
Born in Mount Vernon, New York, Trager received his bachelor's degree from Columbia University in 1959, and his bachelor's of Laws degree (LL.B) from Harvard Law School in 1962.[2]
Professional career
Trager began his legal career in 1963 as a private practice attorney in New York City, New York before serving as the Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of New York from 1967 to 1968. Trager was a law clerk for the Hon. Kenneth B. Keating of the New York State Court of Appeals until 1969, and a law clerk for the Hon. Stanley H. Fuld, Chief Judge, of the New York State Court of Appeals until 1970. Trager served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York in the U.S. Attorney's Office from 1970 to 1972 and returned to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of New York as the U.S. Attorney from 1974 to 1978. Trager was an Associate Professor of Law at the Brooklyn Law School from 1972 to 1974 and again from 1978 to 1993, serving as the Dean of the Brooklyn Law School from 1983 to 1993. While serving as a Member on the New York City Mayor's Committee on the Judiciary from 1981 to 1989, Trager was appointed Chairman of the Temporary State Commission on Investigations for New York State from 1983 to 1990.[2]
Judicial nominations and appointments
Eastern District of New York
Trager was nominated to serve on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York by President Bill Clinton on August 6, 1993, to a new seat created by 104 Stat. 5089, which was approved by Congress. Trager was confirmed by the Senate on November 20, 1993, and received commission on November 24, 1993.[3] Trager was succeeded in this position by Roslynn Mauskopf.
