Edward Terry Sanford
Edward Terry Sanford (1865-1930) was an Associate Justice on the Supreme Court of the United States. He was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Warren Harding on January 24, 1923. He served until his death on March 8, 1930.
Prior to joining the court, Sanford served on the Middle and Eastern Districts of Tennessee.[1]
Sanford was one of four nominations President Harding made to the Supreme Court. He served during The Taft Court and The Hughes Court.
Education
Sanford received two B.A. degrees, from the University of Tennessee in 1883 and Harvard University in 1885. He has an M.A. from Harvard University in 1889 and a LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1889.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments
Supreme Court
Sanford was nominated to the Supreme Court by President Warren Harding on January 24, 1923, to fill a seat vacated by Justice Charles Dickens Clark. He was confirmed by the Senate on January 29, 1923, and received commission that same day. He served until his death on March 8, 1930.[1]
Middle and Eastern Districts of Tennessee
Sanford was nominated to the Middle and Eastern Districts of Tennessee by President Theodore Roosevelt on May 14, 1908, to fill a seat vacated by Mahlon Pitney. He was confirmed by the Senate on May 18, 1908, and received commission that same day. He served in this position until February 5, 1923.[1] Sanford was succeeded in this position by Xenophon Hicks.
