Evan Guthrie
Evan Guthrie (Republican Party) is an at-large member of the Dorchester School District Two school board in South Carolina. He assumed office in 2016.
Guthrie (Republican Party) ran for election to the South Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 94. He lost in the Republican primary on June 9, 2020.
Guthrie was a 2016 Republican candidate for District 38 of the South Carolina State Senate. He was defeated in the primary election. Guthrie was also a candidate for an at-large seat on the Dorchester school board in the general election on November 4, 2014. He ran against two incumbents and three fellow challengers, and was defeated. He was also a 2014 Republican candidate for District 94 of the South Carolina House of Representatives.

2016
School board election
Three of the seven seats on the Dorchester School District Two school board were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. Board incumbents Barbara Crosby and Lisa Tupper filed for re-election and faced challengers Evan Guthrie, John Hull, Christian Simmons, and Pat Parker. Both incumbents won additional terms on the board and were joined in their victory by Guthrie. There was no primary.[1][2]

Funding
Guthrie reported no contributions or expenditures to the South Carolina State Ethics Commission as of October 27, 2016.[3]
The following are the guidelines provided by the South Carolina State Ethics Commission for campaign finance reporting:[4]
Initial report: School board candidates were required to file this report within 10 days of spending or receiving the first $500 of campaign funds. A subsequent report was not required until additional funds were raised.
Pre-election report: This report had to be filed by all candidates, whether or not there was any financial campaign activity. The report had to be filed no later than 15 days, and no earlier than 20 days, prior to the general election. The pre-election report was due on October 24, 2016.
Quarterly report: All candidates with contributions on hand were required to file this report. It was required of all candidates once they had begun to file, whether or not there was financial activity. The fourth quarter campaign finance report was due on October 10, 2016.
Final report: This was due after the campaign account was closed.
State Senate election
Elections for the South Carolina State Senate took place in 2016. The primary election took place on June 14, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The primary runoff election was held on June 28, 2016. The candidate filing deadline was March 30, 2016.
Incumbent Sean Bennett ran unopposed in the South Carolina State Senate District 38 general election.[5][6]

featured four seats up for election. Incumbents Gail Hughes and Tanya Robinson faced off against challengers Justin Farnsworth, Evan Guthrie, Brian Mitchum and Louis Smith for the available at-large seats. Incumbents Charlie Stoudenmire and Frances Townsend did not file for re-election.
Hughes and Robinson were returned to office, while Justin Farnsworth and Brian Mitchum won their first terms.

Funding
Candidates were required to file a quarterly finance report with the South Carolina State Ethics Commission for the November general election by October 10, 2014. This report covered the period of July 1, 2014, through September 30, 2014. Candidates were also required to file a pre-election report no later than 15 days prior to the election. A final report is due after the campaign has closed. Candidates for local school boards may not accept more than $1,000 from individuals and $5,000 from political parties.[9]

Guthrie did not receive any endorsements during the election.
State legislature
Elections for all 124 seats in the South Carolina House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 10, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 30, 2014. Damian Daly ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Jenny Horne defeated Evan Guthrie and Franklin Smith in the Republican primary. Daly was defeated by Horne in the general election.[10]
