Hawaii judicial elections
Judges in Hawaii do not participate in judicial elections. Instead, they are chosen via gubernatorial appointment from a nominating commission and confirmed by the Hawaii Senate. When their terms expire, a nominating commission determines whether to retain the judges.[1]
Hawaii is one of seven states that does not use judicial elections as a selection method. Instead, judges are selected by one of the appointment methods. To read more about how states use judicial elections to select judges across the country, click here.
