Herbert Theodore Milburn (b. 1931) was a federal judge with the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. He joined the court on October 4, 1984, after a nomination by President Ronald Reagan (R). Milburn assumed senior status on July 1, 1996. His service ended on April 1, 2016, upon his death.[1]

Milburn was a federal judge with the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He joined the court on June 7, 1983, after a nomination by President Ronald Reagan (R). Milburn served as chief judge of the court in 1984. He retired from the court on October 9, 1984, following his appointment to the 6th Circuit.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Eastern District of Tennessee

Milburn was nominated to the Eastern District of Tennessee by President Ronald Reagan on April 14, 1983, to a seat vacated by Charles Neese; he was confirmed by the Senate on June 6, 1983, and received commission the next day. From 1984-1984, he served as the chief judge. He served the Eastern District of Tennessee until he was elevated to the Sixth Circuit on October 9, 1984.[1] Milburn was succeeded in this position by Allan Edgar.

Sixth Circuit

Milburn was nominated to the Sixth Circuit by President Ronald Reagan on September 6, 1984, to a new seat created by 98 Stat. 333; he was confirmed by the Senate on October 3, 1984, and received commission the next day. He assumed senior status on July 1, 1996.[1]
