2016

Sandlin's website highlighted the following campaign themes:[11]

Abortion

  • Excerpt: " My strong Christian beliefs guide me to protecting the life and rights of the unborn child. There is nothing I cherish more."

Guns and the Second Amendment

  • Excerpt: " As a lifelong member of the NRA, I am an unapologetic supporter of the Second Amendment and will never support any law that undermines its provisions or seeks to remove any of its freedoms."

Equality and Religious Freedom

  • Excerpt: "First and foremost, I do not discriminate against any law-abiding citizen who does his or her best to contribute to our community. That’s not how I was raised and it’s not how I live my life. Although I may have some disagreements with some people on issues related to their lives, I believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity. This includes members of all constituencies, most assuredly including those seeking to better define and protect their religious freedoms."

Illegal Drugs

  • Excerpt: "As far as drug dealers (and those that supply them), this is the root of all of our problems. Without the dealers, there would be no supply. As your State Senator, I will support mandatory and severe minimum sentences for drug dealers. We must get them off the street and out of our state."

Strong Economy

  • Excerpt: "I am an unabashed capitalist – and I believe that the economic system that has driven this country’s success can benefit both businesses and individuals. It doesn’t have to be an “either/or” situation. As State Senator, I will support less regulation and more responsibility within the economy. I will support programs that provide fair economic opportunities for the middle class."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Indiana

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
