James Maxwell Moody was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. When Moody's son, James Moody (Arkansas), was confirmed to the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas James Maxwell Moody retired from court in accordance with federal law.[1] Moody retired on March 7, 2014.[2]

Early life and education

A native of Arkansas, Moody graduated from the University of Arkansas with a bachelor's degree in 1962 and received his J.D. degree in 1964. Moody served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam from 1964 to 1966.[2]

Professional career

Moody spent his pre-judicial legal career in private practice in the State of Arkansas from 1964 and 1966 to 1995.[2]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Eastern District of Arkansas

On the recommendation of Senators David Pryor and Dale Bumpers, Moody was nominated by President Bill Clinton on June 27, 1995, to a seat vacated by Henry Woods. Moody was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 11, 1995 and received his commission on August 14, 1995. He assumed senior status on October 1, 2008. Moody, in accordance with federal law, retired from United States District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, to allow his son James Moody (Arkansas) to accept a confirmation to the same court.[2]
