John Ellis "Jeb" Bush (b. on February 11, 1953, in Midland, Texas) was a Republican presidential candidate in 2016. He suspended his campaign on February 20, 2016, after coming in fourth place in the South Carolina Republican Primary.[1][2]

Bush served as the governor of Florida from 1999-2007. Prior to serving as governor, Bush founded the nonprofit organization Foundation for Florida's Future, served as Florida's commerce secretary, and worked in real estate development.[3]

Biography

Bush was born in Midland, Texas. Like his father (George H.W. Bush) and older brother (George W. Bush), he attended Phillips Academy, a private school in Massachusetts. During his time at Phillips, he participated in a study abroad program teaching English in Mexico.[2] Bush earned a degree in Latin American studies from the University of Texas.[3]
