Jerry Buchmeyer
Jerry Buchmeyer is a former Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. Buchmeyer died on September 21, 2009 at age 76.[1][2][3]
Early life and education
A Texas native, Buchmeyer earned an Associate's degree from Kilgore Junior College in 1953 and later earned his bachelor's and Juris Doctorate Degrees from the University of Texas at Austin in 1955 and 1957.[4]
Professional career
Buchmeyer spent his entire pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of Texas. Buchmeyer was a Partner for the Dallas based Law Firm of Thompson & Knight from 1958 to 1979.[4]
Judicial nominations and appointments
Northern District of Texas
On the recommendation of Texas U.S. Senator Lloyd Bentsen, Buchmeyer was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on August 3, 1979 to a seat vacated by William Taylor as Taylor Buchmeyer was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on October 4, 1979 and received commission on October 5, 1979. Buchmeyer served as the chief judge of the court from 1995 to 2001 before assuming senior status on September 5, 2003. Buchmeyer's federal court service ended with his death on September 21, 2009.[4]
