Joel Pisano was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. He joined the court in 2000 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton.[1] Pisano retired from the court on February 16, 2015.[2]

Pisano passed away on February 27, 2021.[3]

Education

A New Jersey native, Pisano graduated from Lafayette College with his bachelor's degree in 1971 and graduated from the Seton Hall University School of Law with his J.D. degree in 1974.[1]

Professional career

Pisano began his legal career as a Assistant Deputy public defender for the New Jersey Office of the Public Defender from 1974 to 1978 before spending the rest of his pre-judicial legal career as a private practice attorney licensed in the State of New Jersey from 1978 to 1991.[1]

Judicial nominations and appointments

Magistrate, District of New Jersey

Pisano began his Judicial Career as a federal magistrate judge. In 1991, Pisano was appointed to a eight-year term to the bench as a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Pisano was re-appointed to another eight-year term in 1999 before being elevated in the ranks of the Federal Bench in 1999.

District of New Jersey

On the unanimous recommendation of New Jersey U.S. Senators Robert Torricelli and Frank Lautenberg, Pisano was nominated by President Bill Clinton on September 22, 1999, to a seat vacated by Maryanne Trump Barry as Barry assumed senior status. Pisano was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on February 10, 2000, on a voice vote and received commission on February 16, 2000.[1]
