I am a Christian, Husband, and Father. I have been a leader in the hospitality industry for over 20 years, working with and learning the needs of people from diverse backgrounds. I have learned the art of bridging the gaps between people to find common ground and responsible solutions to challenges that we all face.

  • The role of government should primarily be to protect the rights of citizens.
  • The government does not create jobs. Our legislature should create an environment for businesses to succeed, then get out of the way and let them.
  • Solid education is the best path forward to create a prosperous future for Missouri.

I am passionate about Quality Education. From Pre-K through the collegiate levels, our schools shape the minds of our children and determine the future quality of society. Our schools need the appropriate resources to achieve there goals. They should be responsible stewards of the taxpayer's money that they are given. Parents should provided with as many school options that are possible to ensure that each child's educational needs will be met.

Our healthcare industry is facing many challenges, and our legislature should work very closely with providers accross the state to ensure that our citizens can all receive great care in a SAFE and affordable environment.

With the government reaching into the pockets of every citizen and business, and our state budget reaching all time highs, the legislature should take a firm stance against finding new ways to spend tax dollars. It is every legislators responsibility to ensure every dollar is used responsibly or returned to the taxpayers.

2016

Matthiesen's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Responsible and Accountable Government

The State can only collect less in taxes when we spend less money. Our Government spends money at a higher rate per capita than any neighboring state. Missouri needs Legislators who will be responsible and accountable with your tax dollars to get more accomplished while providing relief to your family.

Quality Education

Prevent Government Interference

Because of the latest and greatest education program that comes out of our Federal Government, our teachers no longer have the freedom to focus on teaching our children how to learn and develop. Standardized curriculum has been injected and shall be measured by standardized testing. And while our teachers are saddled with the Standardized standards, they must create Individual Education Plans for the children who need help meeting the uniform standards.

Job Growth and a Stronger Economy

When business income taxes are low, companies DO NOT leave the state. A favorable economic environment will bring business to Missouri resulting in more quality jobs for our citizens. When business taxes are low, companies can afford to RAISE WAGES.

More working Missourians results in MORE TAX REVENUE. Both income tax receipts will climb, and you will have more money in your pocket to buy the things you need, resulting in sales tax revenue.

Preventing Federal Overreach

It is our job as State Legislators to prevent Federal overreach and preserve the rights of the citizens of Missouri.

This is what I will do for every citizen in District 70, and for every citizen in Missouri.

Protecting our Elderly

In order to protect the assets we need to better reward those who have invested in Long Term Care. Missouri's Partnership Program that protects our Senior Citizen's assets only works with antiquated Long Term Care insurance programs. Today we are opting for more financially responsible Hybrid Long Term Care insurance options and our Missouri Department of Insurance is not willing to change along with us.[8]

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Missouri

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
