Moylan's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Property Tax Relief

As I walk door-to-door and listen to residents of my district, I hear loud and clear that rising property taxes are placing an incredible burden on middle class families. That's why I have voted 13 times to freeze property taxes and end the cycle of yearly property tax rate increases. Despite my efforts, Governor Rauner and Republicans in the House refuse to vote for a property tax freeze. They only want to support a property tax freeze bill that also lowers wages for working families and makes cuts to vital state services. I refuse to play politics with this issue, and will remain completely dedicated to a property tax freeze.

Ending Perks for Politicians

Illinois continues to be plagued by corruption and career politicians who are more interested in lining their own pockets than representing the people they were elected to serve. To help end this culture of corruption, I have sponsored several initiatives to end perks for politicians. I have filed legislation that would end the public pension system for legislators, and I have personally decided to not accept a taxpayer funded pension. When I discovered that some private lobbyists were taking advantage of a loophole that allowed them to collect taxpayer funded pensions, I immediately filed legislation to end this practice.

Creating Jobs and Expanding Economic Opportunity

Middle class families are working harder than ever, but still find themselves struggling to get ahead. I believe the most effective way we can grow our economy is by lowering the tax burden on middle class families. Tax relief for middle class families, along with policies like raising the minimum wage, will help grow our economy. When families have more money to spend and invest, the overall economy grows and our state can prosper.[16]

—Martin J. Moylan[17]

2012

Moylan's campaign website listed the following issues:[18]

  • Fiscal Responsibility
Excerpt: "Marty Moylan believes Springfield should not overspend and leaders should balance budgets in the same way our hard working families do at home."
  • Education
Excerpt: "Marty Moylan believes our children must have the best education available to them in order for Illinois to be competitive in the world economy."
  • Economic Development
Excerpt: "Marty Moylan has spent a lifetime fighting for jobs and developing pro-growth environments which help businesses succeed."
  • Healthcare
Excerpt: "Marty Moylan believes we must protect the quality of services for our seniors and our children."
  • Crime
Excerpt: "Marty Moylan will fight for strong laws which protect the citizens of Illinois. As a leader, Moylan believes that protecting the public is of the highest priority and those who break the law should be punished accordingly."
  • Ethics Reform
Excerpt: "Marty Moylan believes the political games in Springfield, which favor special interests, have been the motivating factors which have placed the State in economic peril."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Illinois

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
