Mary M. Lisi is a federal judge on senior status with the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island. She joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. Lisi served as the chief judge of the district court from 2006 to 2013.

Early life and education

A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Lisi graduated from the University of Rhode Island with her bachelor's degree in 1972 and from Temple University School of Law with her J.D. in 1977.[1]

Lisi was nominated by President Bill Clinton on January 27, 1994, to a seat on the United States District Court for the District of Rhode Island vacated by Francis Boyle. The American Bar Association rated Lisi Majority Qualified, Minority Not Qualified for the nomination. Hearings on Lisi's nomination were held before the Senate Judiciary Committee on April 21, 1994, and her nomination was reported by then-U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.) on May 5, 1994. Lisi was confirmed on a voice vote of the U.S. Senate on May 6, 1994, and she received her commission on May 9, 1994. From 2006 to 2013, Lisi served as the chief judge of the district court. She elected to take senior status beginning on October 1, 2015.[1][2][3]
