Matt Maxwell was a 2016 Republican candidate who sought election to the U.S. House to represent the 5th Congressional District of Connecticut.[1] Maxwell was defeated by Clay Cope at the Republican convention.[2]

Incumbent Elizabeth Esty (D) defeated Clay Cope (R), Stephanie Piddock (I), and John Pistone (I) in the general election on November 8, 2016. No candidate faced a primary election in August. Cope defeated John Pistone and Matt Maxwell at the Republican convention. Esty won re-election in the November 8 election.[3][4][5]
