Michael Adrian Ponsor (b. 1946) is a federal judge serving on senior status for the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He joined the court in 1994 after being nominated by President Bill Clinton. At the time of appointment, Ponsor served as a magistrate judge for the district. Ponsor assumed senior status on August 15, 2011.[1]
Education
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Ponsor graduated from Harvard University with his bachelor's degree in 1969 and later from Yale Law School with his J.D. degree in 1975. Ponsor obtained a master's degree from Oxford University of England in 1979.[1]
Professional career
Ponsor was a law clerk for Joseph Tauro in the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts from 1975 to 1976. Ponsor was a private practice attorney in Massachusetts from 1976 to 1983. He taught as an adjunct professor at Yale Law School from 1989 to 1991. Ponsor has been a professor at Western New England College of Law since 1988.[1]
Judicial career
District of Massachusetts
On the recommendation of U.S. Senators John Kerry and Ted Kennedy, Ponsor was nominated to the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts by President Bill Clinton on November 19, 1993, to a seat vacated by Frank Freedman. Ponsor was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on February 10, 1994, on a voice vote and received commission on February 14, 1994.[2] He assumed senior status on August 15, 2011.[1]

Ponsor served as a magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts from 1984 to 1994.[1]
