Nathan Webb (1825-1902) was the fifth federal judge in the United States District Court for the District of Maine. He joined the court in 1882 after an appointment from President Chester A. Arthur. He retired from the court on June 30, 1902.[1]

Early life and education

Webb earned his A.B. from Harvard University in 1846. He earned Read law recognition in 1849.[1]

Professional career

Webb began his career as a private practice attorney in Portland, Maine in 1849. He left private practice in 1866 to take on a post as the County Attorney for Cumberland County, Maine. From 1870 to 1878 he served as the U.S. Attorney for the District of Maine before returning to private practice for four years.[1]

Judicial Career

Webb was nominated to the court by President Chester A. Arthur on January 18, 1882 to fill the seat vacated by Edward Fox. The U.S. Senate confirmed him on January 24, 1882, and he was commissioned that same day. He retired from the court on June 30, 1902. Webb was succeeded in this position by Clarence Hale.[1]
