Neal P. McCurn (1926-2014) was a federal judge for the United States District Court for the Northern District of New York. He joined the court in 1979 after being nominated by President Jimmy Carter. He served on senior status from 1993 to 2012.[1] McCurn passed away on September 7, 2014.[2][3]

Early life and education

McCurn graduated from Syracuse University with his undergraduate degree in 1950 and later graduated from the Syracuse University College of Law with his LL.B. degree in 1952.[1]

Professional career

McCurn was a private practice attorney from 1952 to 1979 and also served as the president of the City of Syracuse Common Council from 1968 to 1979.[1]

Judicial career

Northern District of New York

On the recommendation of U.S. Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan, McCurn was nominated by President Jimmy Carter on September 28, 1979, to a new seat created by 92 Stat. 1629. He was confirmed by the Senate on October 31, 1979, and received commission on November 2, 1979. McCurn served as the chief judge of the Northern District of New York from 1988 to 1993 before later assuming senior status on April 6, 1993.
