A special election for the position of New York State Assembly District 62 was called for April 19. Candidates were nominated by parties rather than chosen in primaries.[5]

The seat was vacant following Joseph Borelli's (R) election to the Staten Island City Council in November 2015.[6]

Ronald Castorina Jr. ran on the Republican, Conservative, Independent and Reform Party tickets in the special election. Castorina was unopposed in the special election.[7][8]
