Hezekiah Russel Holland is a federal judge for the United States District Court for the District of Alaska. He joined the court in 1984 after being nominated by President Ronald Reagan. Holland is serving on senior status.[1]

Early life and education

A native of Michigan, Holland graduated from the University of Michigan with his bachelor's in Business Administration degree in 1958 and later graduated from the University of Michigan Law School with his law degree in 1961.[1]

Professional career

Holland became a law clerk to State Supreme Court Justice Buell Nesbett in the Alaska Supreme Court in 1961 and later joined the US Attorney's Office as Assistant U.S. attorney for the District of Alaska from 1963 to 1965. Holland spent the rest of his pre-judicial legal career in private practice in the State of Alaska from 1965 to 1984.[1]

On the recommendation of U.S. Senators Ted Stevens and Frank Murkowski, Holland was nominated by President Ronald Reagan on March 6, 1984, to a seat vacated by James von der Heydt as von der Heydt assumed senior status. Holland was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on March 26, 1984 on a senate vote and received commission on July 16, 1984. Holland served as the chief judge of the court from 1989 to 1995 before assuming senior status on September 18, 2001.[1]
