This New York Senate district is a road map to my life: I was born in the city of Rochester, raised in the suburbs, and my grandparents have lived in the rural part of the district for 80+ years. I have always worked to help provide quality services, greater opportunities, and vital support to those in need. After graduating from Williams College, this dedication to public service led me to join the U.S. Peace Corps, help local governments improve recycling efforts, empower youth advocacy initiatives, improve services for seniors aging within their homes, and address inequalities in the public school system. As a leader in non-profit community development, I have spent a decade building educational, environmental, and senior services initiatives at organizations such as Chalkbeat, Recyclebank, Umbrella, and DoSomething.org. My experiences around New York state, the country and the world have given me a broad perspective on what's possible for our region. Now it's time to bring all that I've learned and the relationships I've built to the community I love and call home. I will use these experiences, and my zeal for public service, as I work to earn the voters' support to serve as the next State Senator for Senate District 55.

  • The COVID-19 pandemic has shined a light on the many pre-existing inadequacies and inequities within our economic, educational, and health care systems. ECONOMIC RECOVERY: The pandemic has revealed to us how close to the edge many in our community are living-with wages and benefits that have eroded over time. We need elected leaders who we can trust to stand up for our families, for our workers, for our small businesses, and for our Upstate New York region. Economic recovery plans must do more than just bail out big banks and large corporations.
  • PUBLIC EDUCATION: A good education is the surest path to a secure future. Our state needs to provide all schools with the resources they need to thrive. Decades of underfunding have kept too many young people from reaching their full potential. We know our students will need more support, not less, after the COVID-19 crisis ends. We have a responsibility to ensure an excellent education for every child, no matter their zip code, by fulfilling the New York State Foundation Aid formula, expanding after-school programs, properly funding universal pre-K, and supporting early learning through quality child care.
  • HEALTH CARE: We must ensure access to timely and quality health care for every New Yorker, regardless of preexisting condition or ability to pay. Nobody should lose their savings or take on debt just to afford a basic medical procedure. This includes full reproductive care for women, mental health care, and culturally responsive care for people of color and LGBTQ+ individuals. Our hospitals and community health centers must have the resources and supplies they need to care for us during public health emergencies. We also need to curb the runaway costs of life-saving medicines and prescription drugs.

We're seeing firsthand how ineffective national leadership threatens us all. With every passing month, the federal government rolls back environmental regulations that would protect New York's clean water, clean air, and clean soil. We need to strengthen climate protections in our state to keep our families safe and healthy. To protect our Western New York region, we need to transition to 100% clean, renewable energy, improve the energy efficiency of our homes and businesses, and upgrade our infrastructure to withstand extreme weather events. Also, given my professional experience serving older adults, I am passionate about caring for our parents and grandparents. Seniors in our community should be able to enjoy their retirement on their own terms. People should be able to age in place, if they so choose, and have ample opportunities for recreation and social activity. The COVID-19 pandemic has put our most vulnerable seniors at risk for economic hardship and isolation. We need to make sure our seniors can get the health care they need when they need it by improving access to home and community-based care, telemedicine, and lowering the cost of prescription drugs. Everyone deserves to feel safe and welcome in their community. I will respect the rights of people to be who they are, live their lives with dignity, and have an equal voice in community decision-making. I will work to ensure policies are inclusive, and that all people have the same rights, access, and protections.

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New York

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
