I am a lifelong Alabamian and a resident Shelby County, one of the fastest growing counties in the state. I’m running to move our state forward in the quality of life indicators, specifically, education, access to good healthcare, and job opportunities and training.

What I appreciate about District 73 is that we have a good quality of life with so much potential to make it even greater.

I believe my background as a healthcare professional, small businesswoman, and family advocate best equips me for the job of representing the voters in my district. That means keeping pace with change in our communities, finding practical solutions to our problems, and fighting for the resources and services that families and businesses need.

Real Alabama values are preserved when those elected serve the needs of citizens and address issues that affect their daily lives.

I serve on the Shelby County Democratic Party Executive Committee, lead the Helena Democrats, and am a member of Alabama Democratic Women. I also have volunteered for many state wide campaigns and Democratic organizations and causes.

  • Healthcare development, potentially bringing approximately 30,000 jobs to our state's economy while making coverage available to 3000,000 more people.
  • Sustainable growth while wisely managing our natural resources
  • Support for small businesses and working families and elder care

I am most passionate about quality of life issues. I have worked in this area professionally and it aligns with my personal values. These issues include policies affecting women and children, elder care, sustainable growth, family-friendly neighborhoods, and wise management of natural resources, including local waterways.

One of my strongest influences was my father, Dr. Arthur K. Black. He was a Birmingham MD, Birmingham Track Club founder, and a pioneer in preventive medicine and healthy lifestyles. He taught me by bedrock values about honesty, integrity, discipline to "practice what you preach" and maybe most importantly, compassion for others.
