Structure
Mission
The mission statement of the Utah State Office of Education reads:[1]

Superintendent
The current Utah Superintendent of Public Instruction is Sydnee Dickson (nonpartisan). Dickson assumed office in 2016.
State Board of Education
The State Board of Education consists of 15 elected members. Members are elected by geographic district to staggered four-year terms during the November general election. Candidates for elected positions are reviewed by a nominating committee and passed to the Governor for placement on the ballot. Board members are responsible for appointing the Superintendent of Public Instruction, establishing K-12 graduation standards and coordinating with the Utah State Auditor on reviews of district performance.[3]
