William Peter Van Ness
William Peter Van Ness was a federal judge on the United States District Court for the District of New York. He was nominated by President James Madison on May 25, 1812. He was confirmed by the Senate on May 26, 1812, and received commission on May 27, 1812. He was reassigned on April 9, 1814.
He was reassigned to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on April 9, 1814. He served until his death on September 6, 1826.[1] Van Ness was succeeded in this position by Samuel Rossiter Betts.
