One ballot measure was certified to appear on the Wyoming ballot on November 8, 2016. The measure was approved.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • The measure certified for the November ballot, Constitutional Amendment A, was a legislatively referred constitutional amendment and addressed the investment of state funds in equities.
  • Four legislatively referred constitutional amendments and two initiated constitutional amendments, both addressing marijuana, did not make the 2016 ballot.
  • As of 2016, Wyoming allowed citizen initiatives in the form of initiated state statutes and veto referendums. Wyoming petition signature requirements are determined by calculating 15 percent of votes cast in the state's most recent general election. In 2016, initiative supporters had to gather 25,673 valid signatures for both referendums and statutes by February 8, 2016, in order to qualify for the ballot.

The Wyoming Legislature has the power to place constitutional amendments on the ballot when a two-thirds majority of members in each house of the legislature approves the amendment. Once on the ballot, the amendment must be approved by a simple majority of the electors. The Wyoming Legislature was in session from February 8, 2016, to March 4, 2016.
