SitcomsOnline Digest: How I Met Your Mother Spinoff Picked Up at Hulu; Complete Series of Baywatch Arriving on DVD

Welcome to SitcomsOnline Digest! This week, we're hearing about that How I Met Your Mother spinoff, a sitcom that is NOT going forward at ABC, and more. Let's get going!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM SITCOMSONLINE.COM AND AROUND THE WEB

  • How I Met Your Father has been ordered as a series at Hulu. (Variety)
  • Half of all homes regularly use streaming media, and 25% of all viewing is now through streaming media, so Nielsen is going to start measuring ratings for this sort of a media a bit more closely. (Deadline)
  • Alec Baldwin and Kelsey Grammer may be big names, but that's not enough for ABC to pick up the comedy pilot that both were set to star in (though it's being shopped around elsewhere). (Deadline)
  • It took a long time, and it happened after streaming media went widespread above the level of DVDs, but the entire series of Baywatch is finally coming to DVD. (VEI)
  • More Jeopardy! guest hosts have been announced, including LeVar Burton (CNET)
  • Days of Our Lives has stopped production for the end of the current 56th season, but it seems likely that it will be back for a 57th season. (TV Insider)
  • In a post-Trump era where the dynamics of political humor have shifted, The Tonight Show is seeing a return to being at the top of the late night talk show wars. (Deadline)
  • It seemed as if Fox had something that might work with their limited series The Moodys, but in their attempt to bring it back over a year later, it hasn't quite worked out and has been pulled from the lineup. (SitcomsOnline)

WEEKLY PLANNER (APRIL 24 - APRIL 30)

Mission Impossible

  • We forgot to mention it last week, but Rutherford Falls, a sitcom starring Ed Helms, has debuted on Peacock.
  • Decades has a Mission: Impossible binge this weekend.
  • Let's Be Real, a comedy show featuring puppets, debuts Thursday on Fox.

Ann Wedgeworth

Actress Ann Wedgeworth, who was known for her roles as Lana Shields in Three's Company and as Merleen Elldridge in Evening Shade, has died. She died on November 16 after a long illness near her home in New York City. Ms. Wedgeworth was 83.

Wedgeworth had main roles on several daytime soap operas. She starred as Angela 'Angie' Talbot on The Edge of Night from 1966-1967 and as Lahoma Vane Lucas on Another World from 1970 to 1973. She also appeared in the Another World spinoff series, Somerset.

Some of her early television guest appearances included Kraft Theatre, Startime, The Defenders, Hawk, and Bronk.

Three's Company

She had a recurring role as Lana Shields in nine episodes in the first half of the fourth season (1979-1980) of Three's Company. Lana was a promiscuous older female neighbor who pursued Jack Tripper (John Ritter) and was in turn pursued by Mr. Furley (Don Knotts). In 1998, she was interviewed for the E! True Hollywood Story on Three's Company.

Filthy Rich

Wedgeworth starred as the good-natured but ditzy Bootsie Westchester, wife of Wild Bill Westchester (Jerry Hardin), in the 1982-1983 CBS sitcom Filthy Rich. The Linda Bloodworth-Thomason created series also starred Slim Pickens, Forrest Tucker, Delta Burke, Dixie Carter, Charles Frank, Michael Lombard, Nedra Volz and Vernon Weddle.

Evening Shade

Her longest running role was on Evening Shade, which aired on CBS from 1990-1994. She starred as Merleen Elldridge, the lusty wife of Dr. Harlan Elldridge (Charles Durning). The Linda Bloodworth-Thomason created series also starred Burt Reynolds, Marilu Henner, Hal Holbrook, Ossie Davis, Elizabeth Ashley, Michael Jeter, Jay R. Ferguson, Charlie Dell, Candace Hutson and Jacob Parker.

Some of her later televison guest appearances included One Life to Live, The Twilight Zone, The Equalizer and Roseanne. Her film credits included Scarecrow, Bang the Drum Slowly, Law and Disorder, One Summer Love, Thieves, Handle with Care, No Small Affair, My Science Project, Sweet Dreams, The Men's Club, A Tiger's Tale, Made in Heaven, Far North, Steel Magnolias, Hard Promises, Love and a .45 and The Whole Wide World.

Wedgeworth was also known for her work on Broadway and off-Broadway productions. She won the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play for Chapter Two in 1978. Some of her other credits included Make a Million, Period of Adjustment, Blues for Mister Charlie, The Last Analysis, Thieves and A Lie of the Mind.

Survivors include her husband, George Martin; her two daughters, Danae Torn and Dianna Martin; and stepsons Michael Martin and Greg Martin.

Ms. Wedgeworth was a talented character actress. She appeared in only nine episodes of Three's Company, but it seemed like more because they were always funny and memorable. It was a bit outrageous to believe that Jack would reject Lana's advances. Evening Shade was an underrated show, which should be available complete on DVD. She will be deeply missed.

Earle Hyman

Actor Earle Hyman, who was known for his role as Russell Huxtable in The Cosby Show, has died. He died on November 17 at the Lillian Booth Actors Home in Englewood, New Jersey. Mr. Hyman was 91.

Hyman's early television guest appearances included The United States Steel Hour, Espionage, East Side/West Side, The Nurses, Playdate, The Defenders, Seaway and Madigan.

Earle Hyman

He appeared in 40 episodes of The Cosby Show as Dr. Heathcliff (Cliff) Huxtable's (Bill Cosby) father, Russell Huxtable. He was married to Anna Huxtable (Clarice Taylor). The 1984-1992 NBC sitcom also starred Phylica Rashad, Sabrina Le Beauf, Lisa Bonet, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Tempestt Bledsoe, Keshia Knight Pulliam, Geoffrey Owens (1986-1992) and Raven-Symoné (1989-1992). Hyman received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Performer in a Comedy Series in 1986. He also appeared in an episode of the spinoff series, A Different World.

Hyman was also known for his voice work on the animated series ThunderCats. He provided the voices of the hero Panthro and the villains Red-Eye and Ancient Spirits of Evil in the series which aired in syndication from 1985 to 1989.

Some of his film credits included The Bamboo Prison, Afrikaneren, The Possession of Joel Delaney, The Super Cops, Coriolanus, Julius Caesar and Fighting Back.

He had a long and distinguished career on Broadway. He was nominated for Broadway's 1980 Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Play for Edward Albee's The Lady from Dubuque. Some of his other stage credits included Run, Little Chillun, Anna Lucasta, Moon on a Rainbow Shawl, Othello and A Raisin in the Sun.

Survivors include his nephews Rick Ferguson and Derryl Ferguson and nieces Yvette Ferguson and Monica Ferguson.

Mr. Hyman was a fine actor with a great baritone voice. The episodes where the Huxtable grandparents stopped by were always good ones. Hyman was only 11 years older than Cosby, but somehow they made it work. He will be greatly missed.

We thank them both for the laughter and entertainment they brought us over the years.

Three's Company Moves to Logo; COZI TV's Memorial Day Baywatch Marathon

Three's Company

We mentioned a few weeks ago that '70s classic All in the Family is airing on Logo, but now another '70s classic is airing, too! That sitcom is Three's Company! The sitcom is airing in block marathons as of a few weeks ago, joining Logo's other sitcoms like 227, The Facts of Life, The Nanny, Sabrina, Bewitched, All in the Family, Roseanne, Will & Grace, Soap, and A Different World. They certainly have a wide range of sitcoms now! You'll have to check your listings to see when it airs, as there is no set schedule. But there is plenty of Jack Tripper on Logo each week! Three's Company was airing on sister network TV Land, but hasn't been seen in a few months, so now Logo is airing it. Three's Company can also be seen over-the-air on the digital simulcast network Antenna TV. It's always great having Jack, Janet and Chrissy (or Cindy and Terri) on the air at all times, so enjoy it!

Seven Questions with Nicole Eggert of Splash; Episodic Reviews: Raising Hope - "Burt Mitzvah - The Musical" and "Mother's Day" Airing Tonight on Fox

Ready, Set, Splash! Today we have a very special "Seven Questions" interview with the gorgeous actress Nicole Eggert! She is of course is best known to sitcom fans as Jamie Powell on the popular Scott Baio sitcom Charles in Charge. She then went on of course to do Baywatch where she starred opposite David Hasselhoff and Pamela Anderson in that famous red swimsuit. Nicole's had a solid career so far with lots of TV and film roles and now she is on an ABC competition show called Splash, where she dives off a high-board into a pool against other celebrities. Splash airs Tuesdays at 8|7c on ABC. We talked to her on Tuesday just hours before her first dive aired on Splash, which was episode two. We found out about why she joined the series, what went through her mind in a horrific pre-dive warm-up, her battle with her post pregnancy weight and why it's taken her longer to lose that weight. And of course we asked her about her past work such as Charles in Charge, Baywatch, and even her very early roles on Who's the Boss? and T.J. Hooker. We also delved deeper into her career and life and we got some insight of how she started acting, what she plans to do next after Splash, and other very interesting tidbits! So let's get right to another installment of "Seven Questions!"

"Seven Questions with Nicole Eggert From ABC's Splash"

Nicole Eggert of Splash

SitcomsOnline: It's so great to finally interview you! We've been a big fan of yours since your sitcom days on Charles in Charge and your recurring role on Who's the Boss? But first let's begin talking about your current venture, Splash. The series premiered last week with a big splash in the ratings and your first dive is airing tonight (Tuesday, March 26). What made you decide to join this series and were you ever reluctant in signing on? Did you know any of the celebrities previously?
Nicole Eggert: I had met Kendra once before but that was it, I didn't know anybody else. And I decided to do it because it was sort of like humping on my bucket list and it was something like I always kind of admired and wish I could do. And so with this opportunity with professional trainers like this, it just seemed like a great opportunity.

Nicole Eggert with cast of Splash

SitcomsOnline: So the training pool that all the Splash stars are training in is the same pool you trained on for Baywatch. How is it like going back to that pool after nearly 20 years and how has training for Splash been going you think? Also, a video preview of one of your pre-dive warm-ups before your first dive was posted online and we saw a scary incident. Anything you can share with us from that experience? All I'll say was, man you're so brave and courageous!
Nicole Eggert: Well, training has been going good, there's really good days and there's bad days (laughs). Some days I am excited to go and other days I'm panicking and dragging myself there. But it's neat to be there at that pool because you know on Baywatch we did a lot of shooting in that pool and also my character on Baywatch was a high diver. So we would do a lot of high diving stuff there and you know of course they would just shoot me up on the platform and then shoot me coming out of the pool and then there was you know a professional diver that did you know all the hard work. And all the diving in between, so it's just kind of funny in full circle to be there and now being the one that has to go off those platforms because in those days I would look down and say 'I would never do that,' you know, I wouldn't even jump off of there, so it's pretty ironic. As for the scary incident, thank you...you know what it really scared me but it was a lot scarier than it did hurt, you know it didn't hurt me physically as much as it just scared me and I mean I don't know how I guess I expect to do a show like this and these things not happen...and my oldest daughter was there and she saw me fall and you know I know it scared her and I just wanted to not only for myself but for her to get back up and face that fear again and when you don't succeed you just get up and do it again. And that's what I had to do (laughs).

Nicole Eggert with cast of Charles in Charge

SitcomsOnline: You know the paparazzi and some media outlets can be so mean for no reason, but little do they know that your post-pregnancy weight was because of a result of some health problems. Can you share with us what these health problems are and how everything is going now? You sure do look amazing now!
Nicole Eggert: Oh thank you so much! I still have my last 10 pounds to go and I think it's kind of been on hold because of the show, it's really hard to have a rigorous workout schedule on top of this training, so I've kind of been staying steady. I have hyper thyroid and I had adrenal exhaustion. I kind of suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and when that happened I knocked a lot of my chemical balances off, like my body just wasn't chemically balanced properly and it never repaired itself and then I got pregnant, especially at 39 years old getting pregnant. Then my body, we all know a woman's chemistry goes crazy when they're pregnant, after the birth my body could never balance back out and it was really all out of whack. I wasn't producing any of the proper good hormones, I was only producing bad hormones and some things that cause swelling and I just had a whole handful of imbalances, so I take a lot of medications, I take a lot of hormones for thyroid, I take a lot vitamins and supplements. I take probably 25 things and I have to give myself two shots every day. I'm feeling a lot better, diet and exercise at that point was able to work and be effective, which started to feel good. I'll always have it a little bit harder than your average person to lose the weight just because my body you know it kind of fights itself. The medicine is helping a lot and I'm feeling a lot better and at least I have answers now. It makes me feel a lot better.

Nicole Eggert in Charles in Charge

SitcomsOnline: Let's take a step back to reflect on your past work. I loved Charles in Charge and watched it every day. It certainly made you a big star and all the teenage guys watching were going crazy for you, I think. It was such a fun show with a great ensemble. Can you share with us how you got the role of Jamie Powell and share some experiences from that show? A reunion would be so cool, I think.
Nicole Eggert: Aw, thank you. I auditioned for it and Al Burton was the executive producer over at Universal and I had auditioned for him for other shows and I don't know they cast me and I was so excited, very very excited. I was doing Who's the Boss? at the time recurring and that was making me want to have my own show, to be a regular on a sitcom, so I was really really excited to be cast in that. The day I started on Charles in Charge was the day I was supposed to start high school (laughs), so it was all kind of monumental and I wasn't really looking forward going to public high school. I wanted to be working and my wish came true, and all my friends started high school and I started work (laughs). It was the best years. I think a reunion would be amazing. I'm not sure if all of the cast members are still alive. I heard that James T. Callahan had died and tried to contact him. So sad.

SitcomsOnline: And even more of step back, you just mentioned Who's the Boss, you were great on that series as Alyssa Milano's best friend during the first few seasons and as William Shatner's daughter on T.J. Hooker. When did you decide you wanted to get into acting and what was it like working with stars like William Shatner, Heather Locklear, Tony Danza, and Alyssa Milano early on in your career?
Nicole Eggert: All of them were amazing and great people to work with and you know I was very very young and I didn't really know who they were, I just knew them as people that I met and was working with, you know I didn't know them as such major celebrities. They were all so warm and welcoming and I learned so much from everybody. Everybody was just so kind and so much fun and I learned a lot on those two shows to lead-up to be able to handle doing Charles in Charge. As for getting into acting, oddly enough because this is so out of my character, when I was about four years old I did a beauty pageant and it was Miss Universe for kids and I won Miss Universe, so it was televised and after that casting directors started calling booking me for commercials, I did a movie of the week with Cheryl Ladd & Robert Urich. And from that I started getting calls to do commercials and my first commercial that I did was Johnson & Johnson baby shampoo and Coppertone, and I just had so much fun. My parents are European and I think they were open to let me try to have a different life than what they had and different opportunities than what they were given and we thought we'll try this to see you know how this goes and it was a blast and I've been on this journey ever since.

Nicole Eggert - Charles in Charge

SitcomsOnline: After Charles in Charge, a few years later you of course went into the mega hit show Baywatch during its third season. We can't have an interview without mentioning that show since it's a game changer. This show changed your life even more. What was the decision on going from sitcoms to Baywatch, where you were surrounded by stars like Pamela Anderson?
Nicole Eggert: Well you know Pamela wasn't a big star yet and I had already knew her, she dated Scott (Baio) and she appeared on Charles in Charge so I had known her. So it was fun that I was going to know somebody on set. We started the show together, it was our first season so we were all kind of in it together and David Charvet I knew, I grew up with him, so it was kind of neat to be on a show where you already knew two people. And the producer from Charles in Charge, Al Burton, was producing what was supposed to be a spin-off of Baywatch and that's when I got involved. I was never really supposed to be on Baywatch as a lifeguard, they tried to do a high school spin-off like a beach high school thing and that was the true intention of bringing me onto the show. And I think the new cast, the dynamic was working so well for Baywatch, they didn't want to split it up and they kind of let go of the idea of the spin-off. So I stayed there and it was okay, I don't think it did a lot for my career, you know, I immediately got pigeon holed as to like a bimbo and all that kind of stuff. As far as getting good roles after that, it made my life a little bit harder, but it is what it is. A lot of people obviously liked it, because it was successful, but it was just harder to be taken seriously in the industry after that show.

Nicole Eggert - Baywatch

SitcomsOnline: We've been following your career and besides the stuff I already mentioned, I have to say I loved watching your guest appearances on Married... with Children, Boy Meets World, and in the movies What Lies Above, Wall of Secrets, Holiday Switch, Blown Away and Amanda & the Alien. I don't think using paprika has ever been the same since Amanda & the Alien, ha! So, what projects are coming up next for you that you can share with us...perhaps a sitcom? Would you consider doing Dancing with the Stars now that you have experienced Splash? Thanks for spending some time with us despite your busy training/taping schedule for Splash! We're rooting for you on Splash!
Nicole Eggert: I don't know, that would be my dream to be on a sitcom or a filmed show of any kind really, that would be my dream, you know this (Splash) just came up right as when I started getting healthy and getting better. I haven't been feeling so great that long and this (Splash) is so consuming, so I think we'll start looking at what's next pretty shortly, I just haven't had an opportunity yet and I know the phone is ringing, and there's things but I haven't been able to seriously look at anything yet. Well, now that I have experienced this (Splash), yes I would consider Dancing with the Stars because now that doesn't seem as scary. Now that seems like a piece of cake (laughs). Thank you! I appreciate it and I appreciate all the support. Thank you so much!

We definitely appreciate Nicole for taking the time to give us an interview despite the busy schedule! She is so very nice and beautiful inside and out and we hope nothing but success for her on Splash and in future projects! That'll do it for this installment of "Seven Questions," stay tuned next time for another brand new interview! But first, don't forget to check out Nicole Eggert all over the web and social media. Follow her everywhere!
Tune in to Nicole on Splash this Tuesday at 8|7c on ABC. And check out Nicole's credits on IMDb and TV.com!

On the next...Raising Hope:
By: Todd

Fox's Tuesday sitcom starring Martha Plimpton airs on a special night and time tonight after Idol and we have just watched two-episode finale that airs tonight (Mar. 28) at 9:00pm & 9:30pm. In the first of the two-episode finale airing tonight, "Burt Mitzvah - The Musical," Burt's (Garret Dillahunt) parents (guest stars Shirley Jones and Lee Majors) come to town with the surprising news that he is actually Jewish. So, Burt takes a musical crash-course in his newfound heritage to prepare for the Bar Mitzvah he never had. In the second episode airing tonight, "Mother's Day," it's a holiday to remember as Burt and Barney (Gregg Binkley) road trip to Maw Maw's (Cloris Leachman) childhood home and learn that her mother may still be alive.

In "Burt Mitzvah - The Musical," Burt gets musical (and kosher) in the first of two episodes. Burt and Virginia bring back a ham in Hope's car set for an Easter dinner. Burt's parents, Christine and Ralph, arrive at the house. They have some big news to announce. Christine discovers that she is Jewish after attending a Bar Mitzvah and talking to a genealogist about her cousin. She suggests that Burt embrace his new heritage and have a Bar Mitzvah. Burt and Jimmy then go to a kosher deli to pick up some food and get information on the religion. Everybody at the deli, including the bagels, then break out in a song and dance number about Judaism. Burt tells his parents that he wants to be bar mitzvahed. Christine is pleased that he is finally going to become a man after forty years. Burt then joins a class to study and prepare. Later, the ladies go to Howdy's Market to shop for the Seder dinner. It's then time for another song and dance number as Barney and the entire store participates. Burt is struggling to learn everything and wants to quit, but Jimmy tries to talk him out of it. A final musical number and elaborate video is then shown. After Burt sees Ralph stealing money from his one of his cards, he learns a shocking secret.

In "Mother's Day," Burt and Barney take a road trip to Hagerstown and are surprised to see that Maw Maw's mother is still alive. Burt and Virginia show Maw Maw some old records and recipes in order to try and jog some of her memories. They look for some pictures of her mother to help her remember her. Jimmy gives Virginia a necklace that Hope made, but it turns out that was for Sabrina. Burt goes to Howdy's Market to stock up on some food for a road trip to Hagerstown to take some photos of the house that Maw Maw grew up in. Barney offers to help and keep him company. They are surprised to learn that Norma Jean Mayfair is still alive at the house when she takes a shotgun out and points it at them. Virginia, Jimmy and Sabrina prepare dinner and talk about Hope's life, which Sabrina wasn't part of at the beginning. Burt and Barney pretend to be angels in order to get Norma Jean to come out of the house. The family meets their 104-year-old great grandmother. Maw Maw and Norma Jean then fight. An old time black and white film is played. They haven't spoke in over seventy years because of a disagreement over twenty-five cents. Jimmy then gives Sabrina the necklace in the box. Barney discovers that something has happened to Norma Jean in the bathroom. The episode wraps up with Sabrina giving Virginia a gift and having a heartfelt talk.

Raising Hope wraps up its third season with a pair of episodes tonight. The first episode is clearly the funnier and more entertaining of the two. Shirley Jones and Lee Majors make their second guest appearances tonight. They first appeared in a memorable Thanksgiving episode in the second season. Tonight they visit to celebrate Easter. It's a very fun episode. Jones and Majors are wonderful here. It's too bad this was their only appearance of the season. The main highlights in this episode are the three musical numbers. These are very well-choreographed and even educational song and dance numbers. The second episode airing is a bit of a letdown. It just doesn't have the feeling of a season finale. There's no cliffhanger or series-changing moment. It feels like a regular stand-a-lone episode. There are a few funny moments, such as the fight between Maw Maw and Norma Jean and the old time film. Virginia and Sabrina also have some sweet scenes, as they try to settle some of their issues. It ends with a nice song montage. Even though the show has struggled in the ratings this season, thankfully it has already been renewed for a fourth season. They should receive a nice boost in viewers tonight airing after American Idol. I look forward to seeing more crazy antics from the Chance family in the fall. 1st episode: B+, 2nd episode: C+

No Joke Baywatch on Comedy Central in Early August; More Guest Stars Lined-Up for Hot in Cleveland

In honor of The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff, Comedy Central is warming up the hot seat with some of the best slow-motion running to ever appear on television: Baywatch. The world's most popular show will air on Comedy Central for a limited time only, so make the most of it by watching each night! Tune in for shark attacks and high-cut bathing suits on the busiest, most accident-prone beach in California. Episodes air in late late night (superlatefuntime) starting at 2:30am from Monday, August 2, 2010 through Thursday, August 12, 2010. That's eight nights of Baywatch nights! An episode each will air on the Mon-Wed airings at 2:30am and the two Thursday airings air from 2:30am-5am. Baywatch was last seen in the U.S. on ION Television briefly in 2008. Prior to that the show was on TNN/Spike TV for 5 years from 2001-2006, with sister network TV Land airing it a few times as well. And of course its first venture on cable was on USA Network for many years.
And don't forget after these airings are finished, The Comedy Central Roast of David Hasselhoff world premiere is Sunday, August 15 at 10pm! See The Hoff get roasted! We're told Comedy Central has no plans on airing Baywatch after these airings, so watch while you can! Say, "I'll Be Ready!"

TV Land announced today that legendary comedic actor Tim Conway will appear in an upcoming episode of the critically-acclaimed hit TV Land sitcom, Hot in Cleveland. Also confirmed as guest stars in upcoming episodes are Dave Foley, Canadian comic actor, writer, director, producer and co-star of The Kids in the Hall and NewsRadio, Gary Anthony Williams from Boston Legal and 16-year-old Mark Indelicato, who played Betty's fashion-obsessed nephew on ABC's Ugly Betty.
Tim Conway, beloved for his hilarious characters on The Carol Burnett Show, goes toe-to-toe with Max (Carl Reiner) to win the heart of Elka (Betty White) in an episode entitled "It's Not That Complicated," scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, July 28, 2010.
In "The Play's the Thing" airing Wednesday, August 4, Mark Indelicato plays Zack, a drama nerd and fan of Victoria Chase (Wendie Malick) who invites his hero to give some notes on his school's production of "Romeo & Juliet." Gary Anthony Williams plays Coach Taylor who trains and treats the drama team like a football team, much to Zack's dismay. Hilarity ensues when Ms. Chase ends up giving more than just a few notes.
Dave Foley joins the Hot in Cleveland cast for an episode as Dr. Robert Moore, the head of a local medical foundation who comes to see Victoria (Malick) when she fakes a deadly disease to gain sympathy and votes for her Emmy® nomination. "Good Luck Faking the Goiter" airs Wednesday, August 11 and also guest stars pop sensation Joe Jonas, lead singer of Jonas Brothers.
Hot in Cleveland, which airs at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Wednesdays, stars sitcom favorites Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick and 16-time Emmy®-nominee Betty White. The show, which has garnered great critical acclaim and record-breaking ratings, was picked up on July 7 for a second season of 20 episodes. The second season will begin production in October 2010 and is expected to premiere in January 2011 on TV Land!

Read more about the 2009 TV Land Awards, and tune in on Sunday (April 26) at 8PM!

As we mentioned on Friday on our message board and yesterday here on our ratings report, ABC will air two all-new episodes of the comedic cop show The Unusuals this week. ABC will air The Unusuals on a special night of Tuesday (April 21) at 10pm following Dancing with the Stars: The Results. That means new romantic comedy-drama Cupid will be preempted this week, but is slated to return the following Tuesday (April 28). The Unusuals will also air on its regular night of Wednesday this week at 10pm, following a Lost Special. The show has a 10 episode order, and thus far has aired two episodes--so after this week four will air in all. So it is slated to air through June 17, unless ABC decides to double up each week, if it does much better than Cupid. But for now, tune in this week! It is a well done show!

Family Matters Nick at Nite Launch Delayed; ION Officially Announces April Expansion

You saw the commercials stating that 90s sitcom Family Matters was coming to Nick at Nite in April a few weeks ago, but now that is not happening. We reported this a few weeks back, but Nick at Nite has decided to delay the launch for a better launching pad. The current schedule that is airing currently will continue to air until further notice. They have not announced yet when Family Matters will join the line-up, but we first reported March, then we reported June and then it was reported for April...so it keeps changing. We will not say any other dates until it is official now...but if I were to guess when it is coming, June would be a good guess, since the summer would be an ideal time to launch Family Matters. I don't think any promos have been seen lately?
So, I just wanted to let you all know since I have seen a ton of Google searches for Family Matters coming to Nick at Nite being redirected to our blog, so I owe it you all to let you know it has been delayed, BUT it IS coming, I can tell you that. We will report when Urkel and the gang are coming when it is official now, so we don't cause more confusion.

ION Television has officially announced their April programming expansion. We gave you all the details a week or two ago, but we haven't mentioned this on the blog, but the Thursday night slot from 8-10pm which was to be determined, will be a weekly block called "Total Theatre Thursday." Here is ION's announcement:
ION Media Networks, Inc. today announced an expanded entertainment schedule on ION Television beginning April 7th. Three new series – The Steve Harvey Show, Family Feud and Quantum Leap – along with a selection of blockbuster films will join the lineup, extending the schedule by an additional hour of entertainment programming from 5 to 6 p.m.
On Thursday nights, powered by deals with studios such as Warner Bros, ION Television will launch "Total Theatre Thursday" over the summer, an array of hit motion pictures like Blade Runner, Dirty Harry, Risky Business and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. These blockbuster Hollywood movies feature some of the biggest stars of the industry, including Clint Eastwood, Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford and Jack Nicholson.
With the addition of these three new series and big screen favorites, beginning April 7th, ION Television’s lineup will be: The Wayans Brothers from 5 to 6 p.m. Mon-Fri, The Steve Harvey Show from 6 to 7 p.m. Mon-Fri, Family Feud from 7 to 8 p.m. Mon-Thurs, Mama's Family from 8 to 9 p.m. Mon-Wed, Quantum Leap from 9 to 10 p.m. Mon-Wed, The Drew Carey Show from 10 to 11 p.m. Mon-Wed and "Total Theatre Thursday" from 8 to 11 p.m. Thursdays. Baywatch will now be seen at 6 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays.
View the entire press release.

ION's upfront is slated for May 1. We will try to do an interview with them (part of our ongoing 7 Questions feature) shortly after that. So keep your fringers crossed!

All That Joins The N; ION Television Schedule Change for Late March

We have just gotten word from The N that they are making a schedule change and will add the Nickelodeon sketch comedy All That to its line-up starting Wednesday (March 12)! In addition, Saved by the Bell: The College Years is in Saved by the Bell's slots until its 18 episodes finish. The series started on March 3 and will conclude on March 13 and then Saved by the Bell episodes return to the rotation.
All That will air weekdays at 7:00am, 3:00pm, & 3:30pm and weekends at 9:00am, 9:30am, 4:00pm & 4:30pm ET/PT. They will start with the episodes #338 and #339, so season three episodes.
There are other minor schedule changes and time shifts, such as Saved by the Bell moving to 4-6pm rather than 6-7pm and 9-10pm. Kenan & Kel follows from 6-8pm and Fresh Prince is in primetime from 8-10pm. One on One follows from 10pm-12am. Then from 12am-2am we get a different show each day. Moesha follows from 2-4am. So a lot of 4 in a row of episodes now. Degrassi is now ruling Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays but has disappeared Mon-Thurs. Growing Pains fans will be happy that the show will remain at 12 noon and 12:30pm, while A Different World is still missing.
To see the full schedule, click HERE...you can also discuss these changes and the addition of All That!

We don't have ION Television's April line-up yet, but we might get a preview of what is to come starting March 29. As you all know Baywatch is airing Mon-Thurs at 10pm since last Monday, but ION looks like will pull it from that slot in a few weeks. It is slated to move to Saturdays at 6PM starting Saturday, March 29, replacing 48 Hours (which will remain Sundays at 6PM). Starting Monday, March 31 at 10:00pm and 10:30pm The Drew Carey Show is slated to air for another hour replacing Baywatch. Now we don't know anything beyond that yet, since April is not released yet. I don't think ION will air Drew from 9-11pm for long, so maybe something else is coming? Stay tuned, as soon as we get the April schedule, we will bring it to you! And Baywatch fans watch the show the next few weeks at 10pm so maybe ION can reconsider this.

ION March 2008 Highlights; CW Announces Post-Strike Returns; CBS Renews 11 Shows for 2008-09 Season

We told you before that Baywatch is coming to ION Television in March 2008, but we didn't have the full month's highlights yet. Now we do. There will be no other changes, so Baywatch will start March 3 at 10pm, airing Mon-Thurs. If anyone is wondering, they will be going in production order, but will be starting with Season 3...which is the first season with Nicole Eggert and Pamela Anderson. They will skip the two-part season premiere it seems, as they will start with the episode "Rookie of the Year." No other changes will be made to the line-up, as of now, so we can expect back-to-back Wayans Bros, Alice, Mama's Family and Drew Carey Show from 6-10pm Mon-Thurs leading into Baywatch at 10pm. RHI will continue to air Fri-Sun from 7-11pm with movies and mini-series such as Merlin, Arabian Nights, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
We will keep you up to date if anything changes, but for now click HERE for the March highlights where you can also discuss the programming.

The CW is now the third network (joining CBS and NBC) to officially announce plans of what series will return this season with new episodes following the end of the writers' strike. Everybody Hates Chris and Aliens in America already completed production before the strike started and still has episodes left over. So, they will launch first. Chris has 12 new episodes left (for a total of 22 this season), while Aliens has 8 left (for a total of 18 this season). Both will return Sunday, March 2. CW will return their highest rated sitcom The Game on March 23 with an expected 9 new episodes. Production will be underway soon. It is not good news however for long-running sitcom Girlfriends. The CW has announced it will not return, which the show will now end after 8 long seasons. CW could plan a series finale or a special for its final airing. One Tree Hill still has about 5 pre-strike episodes left still, but 6 new ones will be produced and will start on April 14, which is a Monday, so it seems the show will move to Mondays at 9. The current batch of new episodes, aka: the pre-strike episodes, will air Tuesdays at 9 still. Smallville will return Thursday, April 17 with 5 new episodes. I believe a few episodes before the strike also remain to air...the show will air a total of 20 episodes this season. Rookie drama Gossip Girl will return with 5 new episodes starting Monday, April 21. The show had been in repeats since early January because it ran out of episodes. Another rookie drama, Reaper will return to air on Tuesday, April 22 with 5 new episodes. The show has aired 9 so far and a few pre-strike episodes still remain and will air in its upcoming Thursday at 9 slot before moving to Tuesdays at 9 with post-strike episodes. Finally, Supernatural will return with 4 new episodes starting Thursday, April 24. This coming Thursday (Feb. 21) Supernatural will be all-new for its last pre-strike episode before goina on hiatus until April 24.
We will bring you ABC and Fox's plans as soon as they are "officially" announced.

Meanwhile, CBS has renewed 11 series for next season in a move that will return 10 hours of the network's primetime schedule and eight of the top twenty scripted series on television. Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, NCIS, Numb3rs, Two and a Half Men, Without a Trace and the Freshman Comedy The Big Bang Theory join previously announced Survivor and The Amazing Race as series returning next season (2008-09).
The jury is still out on shows like How I Met Your Mother, Rules of Engagement, Old Christine, Shark, The Unit, Moonlight, and Jericho for next season, but we could expect a few of these to indeed return.
