Sometimes

Sometimes you have to be careful
and sometimes you don’t

I’m scared of having to be careful
but I know I can do what I need to do,
most of the time

Sometimes that light goes off
and you can fall into blissful sleep

Sometimes you have to get up
to write something down

Stressed Out in Santa Fe

Mom and dad complaining bad review imminent
Backseat just wants to hear the Strokes emanating
From dashboard speakers Isaac’s trying to get us
Home with no directions he’s found us Peralta
Street hot Georgiokeef instagram stories fishing
For replies Isaac wants an iced tea but mom just
Wants to go home play You Only Live Once
Add to queue play next play later anyway I’m not
Going to sleep on outdoor bed and try remote
FaceTime autocorrect there’s no right answer
Checking who’s seen my instagram story of young
Artist he replicated O’Keefe dark cross painting
Dad shuts off Strokes so I try Gospel no luck
Finally, Young Americans and everybody seems to
Calm down for a moment we’re actually going in
The right direction or we would have been if you
Took that right all night she was a young American
Now we’ve acquiesced to Google Maps we just
Want to get home where my outdoor bed is right
By the pool by the way the frisbee is 100% recycled
Now apparently we’re going the wrong way
Though it seems we’ve been going the same way
The whole time Google Maps says 12 minutes
Until I can fall into swimming pool and read
A People’s History of the United States on gently
Swinging hammock now it’s playing Heroes
“I was so right about everything!” Isaac exclaims
“What happened?
