🌍 Today marks a pivotal moment in aid efforts worldwide as we launch a stronger Core Humanitarian Standard (CHS), placing crisis-affected individuals and communities at the forefront of our work. The updated CHS reflects more than 4,000 voices across 90 countries from crisis-affected communities and response organisations. While its essence remains unchanged, the updated CHS reemphasises the fundamental rights of those whose lives are upended by emergencies. The revised Standard is now more inclusive and accessible, with simplified language and a streamlined structure to engage a broader spectrum of actors who support those facing crisis. Thanks to the hard work over the last 2 years of all the CHS Alliance members, partners and collaborators who made this possible. We now urge all organisations working to support those in need to sign on to a Statement of Commitment to demonstrate our collective dedication to providing quality, accountable aid. 🤝✨Learn more about the stronger CHS and how to show your support: https://lnkd.in/e9rga_ch #chs #chsalliance #accountability #quality #transparency #ngo #humanitarianaid #aidwork #internationaldevelopment #development #parternships #humanitarian #verification #accessible #accountability #compliance #MakeAidWork #CoreHumanitarianStandard #DemandAccountability Sphere Standards Groupe URD HQAI - Humanitarian Quality Assurance Initiative ICVA (International Council of Voluntary Agencies) Tanya Wood William Anderson Véronique Barbelet All India Disaster Mitigation Institute Matthew Carter OBE Aninia Nadig Pierre Hauselmann Bonaventure Sokpoh Shama Mall Romain Benicchio Aydée Cecilia Marín Pallares Umut Dilara Baycılı Rita Rhayem Philip Tamminga Charlotte Dufour Charly Pierluigi Gloria Soma Christine Knudsen Christian Modino Hok Mervat Shelbaya Unni Krishnan Zeina Mohanna, PhD Claire Goudsmit Rosa Argent Steven Parkinson Walter Brill Martina Brostrom Coline Rapneau (PSEAH Manager_CPCC/PCC Coach) Sandra Fong Vivian A. 📣 CALL FOR INPUTS We, at the United Nations Office of Special Coordinator for Improving the UN’s Response to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (OSCSEA), invite contributions from practitioners, academics, organizations, civil society and others, to review the Secretary-General’s Bulletin on Special measures for protection from sexual exploitation and abuse, ST/SGB/2003/13. This policy document, established in 2003, guides efforts to prevent and address such cases involving UN personnel, serving as a cornerstone for the UN’s response. Our revision aims to: ➡️ Advance a victim/survivor-centered approach ➡️ Identify policy gaps ➡️ Adopt the most effective approaches ➡️ Align with recent thinking on these issues and UN policy change ➡️ Clarify definitions and application Your expertise and insights will help ensure transparent and ‘fit for purpose’ policies that properly meet the needs of the people we serve, the organization and its partners! Share suggestions to strengthen the UN’s efforts on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse and the rights and assistance of victims and survivors. #NoExcuse Please submit your inputs/comments by Sunday, 7 July 2024 (midnight EST) more details can be found here: https://lnkd.in/e3jiVQGD.

📊 A report released by CHS Alliance on the findings from data on reported SEAH incidents highlights the need for survivor-centered investigations. 🟡 84% of victims/survivors are women 🟡 1 in 5 is a girl under 18 🟡 No action taken in 1 out of 3 incidents - 50% due to insufficient information 🎙️ As Tiheyis Tibebu recently emphasized, gender and culturally appropriate SEAH investigations are crucial. ➡ Read CHS Alliance's full report for insights: https://lnkd.in/dxy3pcRY ➡ Learn more about IQTS: https://lnkd.in/eNTknfSZ USAID CHS Alliance Humentum

On 29 May, over 60 people from local & international organisations, United Nations OCHA, donors and Government of Ethiopia gathered in Addis Ababa for a national workshop on taking a victim/survivor-centred approach to protect vulnerable communities from sexual exploitation, abuse & harassment (#PSEAH). Dr Aboubacar Kampo, Acting Resident Coordinator, spoke about increased reports from health care workers of gender-based violence in the #Amhara region which point to a disturbing situation: the normalisation of sexual violence and abuse in conflict settings. He urged participants to work together to ensure that all survivors of this gender-based violence and sexual exploitation and abuse are able to seek support and services in a way that is victim/survivor centred. We are grateful to all the participants who entered into this spirit of collaboration, sharing their knowledge and proposing contextualised solutions to tackle sexual exploitation and abuse in aid. Thank you to the excellent and insightful speakers including UN Victims Rights Advocate, Ms. Nassif Palma, Second Secretary of the Netherlands Embassy in Addis Ababa Meindert Mak, and UN Special Coordinator on improving the United Nations response to sexual exploitation and abuse, Christian Saunders. The meeting was co-convened by CHS Alliance, #PSEAH Network, #Amhara Women's Association, Women Empowerment Action(WE-Action) and #Hiwot (Safeguarding Resource and Support Hub #Ethiopia), and supported by the Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken - Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands. How can we redesign the aid system from a people-centred perspective? CHS Alliance Executive Director, Tanya Wood, sets out three important questions we should be asking: 1. Is Accountability to Affected People (#AAP) a technical fix or a system reform challenge? 2. Are constrained resources a threat or opportunity for AAP? 3. How can we move from individual responsibility to collective responsibility? Read her new blog 👉 https://bit.ly/4aMIXZB And share your views on AAP via this online survey with ICVA (International Council of Voluntary Agencies) 👉 https://bit.ly/AAP_survey Results will inform a series of conversations and workshops to create a new Local to Global Pathway to Accountability.
