Our lives and our planet's health depend on the #ocean much more than we tend to acknowledge. In his thought-provoking piece, Prof Alexander Turra from the University of São Paulo, National Champion of Brazil, shares his novel perspective on the relationship between ocean health and society, and suggests new routes to identify and face the sources of marine litter and environmental contamination at large. https://lnkd.in/gSpxqNPr

#Chemicalpollution from #novelentities continues to disrupt our ecological balance. One glaring example: annually, we generate a staggering 50 million tonnes of electronic waste, exacerbating this crisis. Can circular electronics offer a comprehensive solution to this pressing e-waste challenge? Dive into The Circular Electronics Partnership to learn more.
#Data has the power to help us see the world more objectively and understand how systems interconnect 💡As Professor Michael Schaepman, President of University of Zurich explains, these insights help us break down silos and overcome our preconceptions, so we can create #Sustainable, #Inclusive change ✅ #SystemsThinking #InterdisciplinarySolutions #Science

In recent years, mounting evidence underscores the pivotal role of our #foodsystem in driving the #energytransition. Dr Marta Kozicka from the International institute for Applied Systems Analysis, National Champion of Austria, delves into this discourse, advocating for a dietary shift towards plant-based meat and dairy alternatives. Coupled with strategic land-use policy measures, this shift holds the potential to steer us towards a #safeoperatingspace for humanity. https://lnkd.in/ek3FbaA3

Is there hope for #biodiversity recovery? According to a new study published last month in Science, there is a clear positive #impact to #conservation action.
A new study is offering the best evidence yet that conservation works. In a sweeping analysis, researchers found that in two out of every three cases, creating protected areas, restoring habitats and other conservation actions either improved biodiversity or curbed its decline.
News spotlight: Conservation works, offers hope for biodiversity

Achieving a fair and just #energytransition requires great investment in #policy frameworks. It is therefore crucial that organizations such as #IRENA invest efforts in encouraging the establishment of such frameworks.
Achieving #COP28's commitment of phasing out fossil fuels and deploying #3xRenewables, will require strong policy frameworks at a global level. International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to countries at #IRENA14A to help them achieve a fair and just #energytransition.
