📌 On December 5th we launch the Mixed Migration Review 2024 #MMR2024 exploring the relationship between politics and migration. In 2024, nearly half the world’s population in over 80 countries headed to the polls. In many of these elections, migration politics emerged as a critical issue Some questions the #MMR2024 will be addressing: ➡️ How is migration instrumentalized both domestically and internationally? ➡️ In what ways do rising populist movements rely on maintaining migration as a perceived threat? ➡️ What role does modern media play in shaping migration narratives? ➡️ How do governments balance restricting asylum and migration with the growing demand for migrant labour? ❓💬👇 Add your questions/issues on the topic in a comment below 💻 Register for the virtual launch on Dec 5th 14:00 - 15:30 CET and be part of the conversation! 🌍 Call for Papers - Policy Conference 🌍 📅 Deadline for Submission: 21 October We are organising a two-day conference in Nairobi, entitled '600 Days of War in Sudan: Taking stock of the regional mixed movement trends, blindspots and future scenarios'. The conference aims to engage a diverse range of actors, including national and regional policymakers, donor country representatives, humanitarian practitioners, researchers, grassroots organizations, and civil society activists. We will prioritize the participation of displaced Sudanese and/or third-country nationals from Sudan to share their first-person accounts of the themes under discussion. Priority will be given to actors working in or on Sudan and its neighboring countries. We welcome proposals that: 🔹 Bring together data and research on the mixed migration consequences of the Sudan war 🔹 Explore protection challenges for Sudanese and third-country nationals in the region. 🔹 Analyze cross-cutting issues, including gender dimensions and food insecurity 🔹 Identify gaps in research and policy, and discuss future scenarios for onward movement. How safe are children journeying on migration routes? Our 4Mi surveys, which explore perceived risks (often based on migrants' own experiences), reveal that of respondents who were travelling or living with children under their care (n=18,312), 48% believe children on the move are highly exposed to risks such as physical violence, kidnapping, and even death. In Latin America, this figure rises to 53%. Explore the data yourself on our dashboard, now featuring insights from 69,000 surveys with refugees and migrants worldwide since 2019.
