Wednesday Memes and Daughter L was married

Daughter L was married this past weekend. It was a beautiful wedding and I am gathering a few photos to share. A friend commented it was the best wedding she had ever attended. Stay tuned for more.

Meanwhile enjoy the Wednesday Memes today:

Old Building

Daughter L finally picked up her wedding dress a few weeks ago at a Bridal Salon  in this little town called Elmira.

We sat and ate ice cream outside the ice cream shop that overlooked this old building.  I liked the

upstairs windows and the roof decoration.

Good Tips

My sister saw this teacup in a Japanese restaurant where they went for lunch one day.  It says 'ten ways to good health'.  Good tips.

Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date - Gestures and Movement and Pork Chops

Here is my 'Gestures and Movement'  piece, an ACEO ( 1/2" x 3 1/2").  It is based on a photo of one of my little great nieces (or grand niece), seems like she is getting ready to talk, making a lot of hand gestures lately.

I am showing  my baked pork chops for the dinner date.  375F 20 minutes, it is that easy!  Just marinate with your favourite ingredients ahead of time.

Beautiful themed cake

Daughter L went to a friend's baby shower and shared this photo of the beautiful cake.  It was a 'Winnie the Pooh' theme.  Cake is art sometimes.  It was made by a cousin of the mom to be!

Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date - Figure Drawing and evolving bean soup

Here is my piece for Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date.  It is a figure drawing mannequin, an ACEO (2 1/2" x 3 1/2").

And my bean soup keeps evolving.  This time I used black beans and a can of corn along with leftover meat and gravy from a pork sirloin roast I had done.  So I didn't add any extra stock, just 3 extra cups of water.

Spicy Sausage Pasta Sauce

Well I am on a pasta sauce thing these past few days.  I made my basic pasta sauce from scratch and crumbled 3 of the spicy sausages that husband M had Barbecued.  It was so good, I just ate a serving without any pasta added.

Pasta Meat Sauce from Scratch

I was very happy with this meal!  I have made pasta with meat sauce using my favourite jar sauce for years and years.  Go figure.

10 medium tomatoes

1 pound of ground meat

5 tbs unsalted butter

1 onion diced

5 cloves garlic minced

1 bay leaf

1 tsp dried basil (or fresh leaves)

1 tsp dried oregano (or fresh leaves)=

1 tsp dried parsley

1 tsp white sugar

2 tbs olive oil

1/2 tsp red pepper flakes

1/2 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp salt

Prepare the tomatoes by dunking for a minute in boiling water.  Remove and when cool enough, skin them.  I score the flesh into quarters and the skins peel right off.  It takes me 5 minutes.

Saute onions, garlic in olive oil and butter.  Add the meat and brown it.  Add the spices and herbs then add the tomatoes.  Simmer covered 45 min to 1 1/2 hours depending on your preference.  Mash the tomatoes with a masher occasionally.

I cooked 3 cups of small shell pasta and added to the sauce for a delicious one pot meal.

Peeling tomato skins

I enjoyed peeling tomato skins with the aim of making my own tomato sauce since fresh tomatoes are in season right now.  It seems that it might be a lot of trouble but I enjoyed the process!  Kind of like making bread, a good feeling.

Bring water to a boil, dunk the tomatoes in for a minute.  Allow them to cool enough that you can skin them.  I lightly scored the flesh into quarters and the skins came right off, it took about 5 minutes.

Why did it take me my whole life before trying this?

Three point seat belt and a good company

A brief history of the seatbelt can be found in this link.

'In 1959, the Volvo engineer Nils Bohlin developed the modern three-point seat belt. Although the design was patented, the company decided the patent was to be left open, making it available to all vehicle manufacturers to use for free. '

Volvo is a great company to do this.

Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date - Cartoons and Caricatures and Coleslaw

Well this would be my first Caricature and it is for Rain's Thursday Art and Dinner Date 'Cartoons and Caricatures' theme.  It is an ACEO (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") in markers and coloured pencil.  Boris Johnson has been in the news lately my inspiration was from the newspaper.

I had half a cabbage to use up and decided to make some coleslaw using this simple recipe.   We enjoyed it.
