Elections

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is responsible for the administration of the following
elections:

  • Local Government
  • Scottish Parliamentary
  • UK Parliamentary (General)
  • Community Council
  • By-elections

Special elections such as referendums and community elections are held as and when required.

Forthcoming Elections

The major elections planned for the coming years will include:

  • Scottish Parliamentary Election – May 2026
  • Local Government (Council) Election – May 2027

These dates may be subject to new or revised legislation which mean polls may be moved to other dates.
By-elections can occur at any time with as little as 7 weeks’ notice when a vacancy arises.
Unscheduled or snap elections can be called with a minimum of 25 working days’ notice.
