Devant le trumeau de la porte de gauche de la façade de Notre-Dame de Paris, était posée, avant 1793, une grande statue de la sainte Vierge, tenant l'enfant Jésus, et les pieds sur le serpent à tête de femme, enroulé autour de l'arbre de science; au-dessus de cette statue de la sainte Vierge, remplacée aujourd'hui par une figure du XVe siècle, deux anges supportent un dais couronné par l' Arche d'alliance, les prophètes sont assis des deux côtés sur le linteau; dans le tympan on voit deux grands bas-reliefs représentant la mort de la sainte Vierge et son couronnement.
