| Description |
English: Example of the sum of a cosine with an angular velocity of 360° per day and an amplitude 1, a cosine with an angular velocity of 360+36° per day, amplitude ½A, and a cosine with an angular velocity of 360–36° per day, amplitude ½A. The resulting curve is exactly the same as the one that would be the result of the first cosine, multiplied by a factor 1+Acos(36°). This is important when one wants to understand the role of partial tides in tidal theory.
