Crew of 2 Gun, Royal Marine Artillery unloading 15 inch Howitzer shells on the Menin Road, in the Ypres Sector. These shells weigh 1,400lbs, their explosion makes a crater averaging over fifteen feet deep and fifteen yards across, and splinters and fragments have an effective radius exceeding 800 yards. Identified on left in back of wagon looking at camera is Gunner 1113 A.C. Holder. Note the dog sitting on one of the shells. He was adopted and fed by the gunners and used to sleep under the gun at night.
