Filip Rathé - De Blinden (opera van Daan Janssens en Patrick Corillon op tekst van Maurice Maeterlinck) Nederlands: In 2011 is het precies honderd jaar geleden dat Maurice Maeterlinck de Nobelprijs literatuur kreeg, in 2012 vieren we zijn honderdvijftigste geboortejaar. De jonge Brugse componist Daan Janssens (°1983) gaat samen met beeldend kunstenaar Patrick Corillon aan de slag met Maeterlincks poëtische wereld. Uitgangspunt voor de scenografie is de magische lantaarn, een machine die door de zangers wordt gemanipuleerd, eenvoudig, haast kinderlijk knutselend. In 'De Blinden' zien we zes blinden (zangers) die in een donker herfstbos de terugkeer van een priester afwachten. De blinden spreken, om hun angst veroorzaakt door de dreigende omgevingsgeluiden te temperen. De natuur geeft hen signalen: een vlucht nachtvogels, de wind in de dode bladeren, het ruisen van de naburige zee. Ze interpreteren dit steeds nadrukkelijker als signalen van een naderende catastrofe, de dood. Het dramatische ritme wordt bepaald door een afwisseling van eb en vloed, van angst en hoop, die doorheen het stuk gestaag versnelt. Tot op het moment dat ze het dode lichaam van de priester ontdekken, de enige die hen de uitweg kon wijzen ... Français : En 2011, nous célébrons le centenaire de l'attribution du prix Nobel de littérature à Maurice Maeterlinck ; en 2012, nous fêterons le cent cinquantenaire de la naissance de l'auteur. Le jeune compositeur brugeois Daan Janssens (né en 1983) et le plasticien Patrick Corillon s'aventurent dans l'univers poétique de Maeterlinck. Le point de départ de la scénographie est la lanterne magique, un appareil d'une grande simplicité, que les chanteurs manipulent comme des enfants qui bricolent. Dans ' De Blinden ' (' Les Aveugles '), six chanteurs (les aveugles) attendent le retour d'un prêtre dans une forêt automnale plongée dans la pénombre. Ils parlent pour calmer l'angoisse suscitée par les bruits menaçants qu'ils entendent tout autour d'eux. La nature leur envoie des signaux : un vol d'oiseaux nocturnes, le bruissement du vent dans les feuilles mortes, le ressac de la mer proche. Il les interprètent de plus en plus comme les signes avant-coureurs d'une catastrophe imminente : la mort. Le rythme dramatique, déterminé par l'alternance des marées, de l'espoir et du désespoir, s'emballe au fil de la pièce. Jusqu'au moment où les aveugles découvrent le corps sans vie du prêtre ; il était le seul à pouvoir les faire sortir du bois… English: 2011 marks the centenary of Maurice Maeterlinck's receipt of the Nobel Prize for Literature. Next year, 2012, we are celebrating the hundred-and-fiftieth anniversary of his birth. The young Bruges composer Daan Janssens (b. 1983), has joined forces with stage designer Patrick Corillon to engage with Maeterlinck's poetical world. The basic idea for the stage design is a magic lantern, a machine that the singers manipulate simply, almost childishly. In 'De Blinden' (The Blind), we see six blind people (singers) in a dark, autumnal wood, awaiting the return of a priest. They converse, in order to temper the fear aroused by the sounds around them - Nature's signals - a flight of nightbirds, the wind rustling through dead leaves, the swishing of the nearby sea. They interpret all these ever more emphatically as signs of an impending catastrophic event - death. The dramatic rhythm takes its pulse from an alternation of ebb and flow, of fear and hope, that steadily gathers pace as the opera proceeds … until the moment when they discover the dead body of the priest, the only one who could have shown them a way out. |
