Description |
The passenger-cargo ship S.S. 'Queen Wilhelmina' in a choppy sea Signed and dated '1901' lower left S.S. Queen Wilhelmina, built by Sir James Laing, Sunderland in 1898 and owned at the time of loss by Furness, Withy & Co. Ltd., Sunderland. British steamer of 3,590 tons with a cruising speed of 12 knots. On 8 May 1915 on a voyage from Leith to Fowey in ballast, she was torpedoed by the German submarine U9, 20 miles off Longstone (off Blyth). Subsequently beached at Bondicarr and declared a total constructive loss. There were no casualties. |
