Kalbeliya Man Playing Been

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A been is a traditional wind instrument commonly used in the Kalbeliya dance and other folk music of Rajasthan, India. It is a long, wooden instrument made from a hollow gourd that is covered with dried snake skin, with a mouthpiece and two pipes. The musician plays the been by blowing air through one of the pipes while covering and uncovering the other with their fingers to create a haunting and melodious sound. The been is often accompanied by other traditional instruments like the dholak and khartaal to create a rhythmic and energetic music that adds to the charm of the Kalbeliya dance. The been is not only an important musical instrument in the Kalbeliya dance, but it also holds significant cultural and religious significance in many parts of Rajasthan.
