Summary
[edit]DescriptionKhasekhem 1.jpg |
English: Vase of pharaoh Khasekhem in red granite, before he reunified Egypt and changed his name to Khasekhemwy. Discovered in Hierakonpolis (Kom el-Ahmar) by Quibell in 1898. The inscription depicts the victory of Khasekhem over battle enemies in Lower Egypt, though this interpretation is disputed, since the names of the enemies are not preserved. The center of the depiction shows the goddess Nekhbet in shape of a vulture, sitting on a early form of the royal cartouche, the Shen-ring of eternity. Inside this ring the word Besh is incised, it means "rebel". It is disputed if Besh refers to the defeated enemies or if it's the true birth name of Khasekhem, which would explain the warped name "Bebty" at the Saqqara kinglist and in the Turin canon. In her right claws Nekhbet holds the heraldic emblem Sematawy, representing an unified Egypt. The emblem is handed over to the serekh name of Khasekhem. Interestingly, the Horus falcon wears the White Crown only.
