- It's a fact. I recommend you read up on the history of the mutualities of Belgium. The social-democrat, christian-democrat, liberal, neutral and independent/libre mutualities are all born out of political movements and each of them retains institutional links to other representatives of their respective ideologies, like the political parties and unions. This is clearest for the largest forces in the landscape, the social-democrats and the christian-democrats, but also holds for the liberals. This memo from LM from 2011 explicitly states: "We zijn echter een liberale mutualiteit en daarom pleiten wij al tientallen jaren voor een structureel en bestendig overleg met Open Vld en MR."
