of universit... more The first aim of this research is to examine the relation between irrational beliefs of university students related with romantic relationships and their perceptions related with premarital relationship and relationship satisfactions. The second aim of this research is to determine the rate of how university students’ relationship satisfactions are predicted by their level of irrational beliefs related with romantic relationship, perceptions related with premarital relationship and demographic variables. The research group consists of 299 university students having education in Hatay Mustafa Kemal University. Demographic information form was developed by the researcher in order to obtain information about university students’ gender, age, department, class, relationship status and relationship duration. Irrational Romantic Relationship Beliefs Inventory (IRRBI) which was developed by Sarı (2008), was used to measure the beliefs of university students about romantic relationships and in order to evaluate the perceptions of students about premarital relationship, Premarital Relationship Assesment Scale (PRAS) developed by Kalkan and Kaya (2007) was used. Furthermore, the relationship satisfaction of university students was measured by Relationship Satisfaction sub dimension (RS) of Relationship Stability Scale (RSS) developed by Rusbult, Martz and Agnew (1998) and was adapted to Turkish culture by Büyükşahin, Hasta and Hovardaoğlu, (2005). In order to determine the relationship satisfaction precursors Hierarchic Multiple Regression Analysis was used. In order to test whether there is a significant difference iv at the end of regression analysis according to significant precursors, one way ANOVA and t-test calculations were made. At the end of analyses made, it was understood that excess expectations, different thinking, gender differences which are sub dimensions of IRRBI and religious values, communication, friend relationships, family relationships sub dimensions of PRAS predicts relationship satisfaction significantly. Besides, it was determined that relationship satisfaction of individuals during flirting period was found to be higher compared to engaged individuals. Besides as the points taken from excess expectations sub dimensions of IRRBI increases, relationship satisfaction also increases and as the points taken from different thinking and gender differences sub dimensions increase, relationship satisfaction decreases. Finally as a result of the analyses made, it was determined that as the points taken from religious values, communication, friend relationships and family relationships sub dimensions of PRAS increase, relationship satisfaction also increases.
