Info
Common Goal is a global impact movement for the world of football, rooted in the belief that the world’s most popular sport is one of the few cultural forces strong enough to help shift society towards a more sustainable and equitable future for all. The movement unites organisations, athletes, clubs, brands and other stakeholders in football to radically collaborate towards the wellbeing of our people and planet. To do so, Common Goal develops scalable impact solutions to tackle humanity’s biggest challenges and provides opportunities for everyone that is part of the football community to contribute. Common Goal is a movement for everyone that loves football and wants the game to be the best version of itself, driving positive transformation within the game and inspiring everyone to work together in support of our people and planet.

Football clubs can play a fundamental role in somebody’s life. Even more so when they’re coming to a new country and are looking for ways to integrate themselves, meet people and build a new life. What starts as a leisure activity can quickly turn into something else. Somewhere to call home. A place within a community. A group of people to refer to as family. The Guardian took a dive into Spanish clubs giving migrants a chance to flourish in their new homes. Featuring two teams that are part of a club within the Common Goal network - Dragones de Lavapiés ❤️ Dragones are based in Madrid and are home to around 400 players from over 50 countries. For nearly a decade, they have been uniting young people from different backgrounds and have helped foster diversity and fight racism. 'Without Andrés Escobar, there would be no Common Goal.'
La vida no termina aqui Football is just a mirror of our society. Maybe. Football can be a very dark place. Yes. Football can be a force for good. Oh, yes! On July 2nd, 1994, Andrés Escobar, the Gentleman of (Colombian) Football, was assassinated. He had made a mistake, he had scored a goal against his own team in an effort to expose the beauty and dignity of his country to the world, through the beautiful game. Side notes: the Colombian team performed at that time probably one of the most beautiful exhibitions of football of all times. At the current UEFA EURO 2024 own goals are ranked second in the goal scoring list. The news were spread on the radio that morning. I had to get up at 4am to make it on time to University where I was teaching and class started at 6am. That July 2nd would become day 1 of building a global football network with a single goal: leverage the power of the game for the good of society. Today, we celebrate 30 years and today we are Common Goal. Out of one of the darkest moments in football a force of football for good was born. Today, we are many and we are united. It was no straight road, pretty rocky at times, we failed and we learned a lot, we started small, many of us, in many places, and we learned how to collaborate and be more than just the sum of the parts, we sensed that football had this unique potential, and now we know it. Common Goal is not a legacy of Andres Escobar, but without Andres Escobar there would be no Common Goal. The blood, sweat and tears of many thousands have impacted the lives of many dozens of millions of young people who struggle to access opportunities. This makes July 2nd a day of remembrance, but first and foremost a day of celebration. The foundation we have built all together, based on trust, shared audacious aspiration, unbreakable determination and a radical commitment to collaboration, makes me confident to say that this is just the beginning. And that we won't rest until we see the power of football leveraged for the good of people and planet. It is still a long way to go and we take on the challenge. Happy anniversary, Football for Good! 🇩🇪 🇩🇰 There's so much more happening behind EURO 2024 than what we see on the pitch. We watch the football, but we get touched by the stories, personalities and leadership that come with it. Today is no exception as two Common Goal members meet in Dortmund. Julian Nagelsmann and Kasper Hjulmand make us connect with their teams on the field but also with the example they set off it. Both are building a social legacy to change the world into a better one hand in hand with the different organisations that make up our community.

Things you love to see 😍 We are so touched by what Steph Starkey and her seven-year-old daughter Lydia have done ❤️ Thank you so much Steph, you must be so proud!
‘Dear Common Goal, I have raised £765 by myself by riding my bike passed my friends houses dropping off brownies. I rode 7 miles it took 2 hours fiffteen minutes. We have raised £2,275 so far we are trying to get to £10,000 pounds. Love from Lydia. PS. I am 7 years old.’ *grammatical errors left in for cuteness. My daughter Lydia wrote this letter to Common Goal to tell them about her part in raising money for the charity. I’m so proud of her achievement and genuine willingness to help others. I’d love to share it with as many people as possible, including Juan Mata García, the co-founder of Common Goal. Please comment below and tag them to get Lydia’s letter to them! #commongoal #football #juanmata #charity #footballcharity #socialchange #fundraiser
