"The many dead and missing during the massacre of 24 June 2022 were no accident...the death trap into which the migrants fell goes beyond the architecture of the border crossing or the chain of events that took place on 24 June." On that day, around 2,000 migrants attempted to cross the border fence separating the city of Nador, in northeast Morocco, from the Spanish-controlled enclave of Melilla. The violent repression by Moroccan and Spanish law enforcement turned the border crossing into a death trap. Yesterday, Border Forensics launched a new investigation: "The Nador-Melilla Border Trap". This counter-investigation is the most complete reconstruction of these events. It shows how policies and practices, including European and Spanish policies of externalizing migration control, Moroccan migration diplomacy, impunity for violence over many years, and daily racist repression in the area, have all contributed to this horrific event. Read and watch the report in full 👉 https://lnkd.in/dwXdDkBz Our (Robert Bosch Stiftung's) partner Border Forensics, in collaboration with Irídia-Centre for the Defense of Human Rights and AMDH-Moroccan Association for Human Rights, have made this investigation possible.

🗝️ How trust in a young woman can spark a social enterprise that opens doors for many ... ✏️ While still in secondary school, Natalya Nepomnyashcha was part of our Talent im Land-Scholarship program for talented students with a migration background. 🚀 Twenty years later, she founded the social-startup Netzwerk Chancen. Netzwerk Chancen is committed to equal opportunities throughout Germany. It offers a free support program for young people from underprivileged families between the ages of 18 and 39 who demonstrate a socially mobile profile and connects them with potential employers. 🫱🏽🫲🏿 💭 On the occasion of our 60th anniversary, Natalya recalls how her scholarship as a student affected her future path ... ➡️ Read the full interview: https://lnkd.in/erwBwdsQ #BoschStiftung60 #Alumni #Scholarship 📣 PS: Are you a former or current fellow, grantee or staff members of the Robert Bosch Stiftung or its partners? 📅 In 2023, we partnered with Robert Bosch Stiftung and UN Convention to Combat Desertification to kick off the first Women's Land Rights Workshop, which centred on driving systemic change around women's land rights. We discussed harnessing synergies and mobilizing joint action. This was a historic first workshop on women's land rights with all 3 Rio Conventions: https://lnkd.in/eJbVCYSH 🔁 During this year's second edition of the Women's Land Rights Initiative (https://lnkd.in/eMn5Cse7) in Berlin, we set our sights on identifying entry points for synergies across the 3 Rio Conventions that are key to outlining joint and decentralized actions to spark change. In addition to our co-hosts UN Convention to Combat Desertification, UN Biodiversity, and UN Climate Change, we're joined by grassroots and civil society organizations, land rights activists, and climate, biodiversity and soil experts from around the world. 🤝 Only together can we shift how climate targets are envisioned and enacted with women's land rights as the foundation of just climate action. Stay tuned! In 2 more days we kick off this exciting workshop! #LandRights #WomensLandRights #WomensLandRightsInitiative #WomenEmpowerment #RioConventions

600,000 people live in the Saar-Moselle Eurodistrict, a border region that wants to grow even closer together. 🇪🇺🤝 Living #Europe beyond borders: The @eurodistrict_saarmoselle highlights European unity on a small scale. Despite being divided by the border between France and Germany, the city of Saarbrücken and the community association of Forbach have been working together closely for years. Within our „Common Ground“ project the region aims to deepen this connection even further – by creating a cross-border agglomeration for its 600.000 inhabitants. 🏘️ ➡️ Follow the link to learn more about the situation in Saar-Moselle, the importance of cross-border collaboration and why getting the public on board is one of the most vital steps when creating a shared administration across borders. Today's 🇺🇳 UN World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is a reminder of the enormous challenge that land degradation poses to the global climate and environment. But, what do drought and desertification have to do with women's land rights ❓ 🌾 As we learn from Violet Shivutse, founder of Shibuye Community Health Workers, an organization that helps women gain access to land leasing and raises awareness of their rights: Advancing women's #LandRights is key for the success and sustainability of measures against drought and land degradation, such as restoration or agroecology. And it’s a human rights imperative. In Kenya, for example, only 1 % of land titles are in women's names, while about 80 % of women work in agriculture. “We have a big vision to ensure that women can access land,” says Violet. Why is advocacy for women’s land rights needed at the UN level ❓ 🌍 The 3 UN Rio Conventions on Biodiversity, Climate Change and Desertification provide a global roadmap for maintaining a healthy planet. And they can be a powerful avenue for change. Across them, land is a unifying thread. 📣 Our goal is to solidly anchor women’s land rights at the UN level, encouraging their realization nationally! #UNited4Land #HerLand #ClimateAction | UN Convention to Combat Desertification | UN Climate Change | UN Biodiversity | TMG Research gGmbH - TMG Think Tank for Sustainability

👀 A look back at our support in the field of #Health: Since 2002, we have been committed to strengthening academic geriatric medicine in Germany – initially with the Geriatrics Research College for young physicians. 🩺 In 2014, we've taken our commitment to a new level with the creation of several academic chairs in #Geriatrics. Although demographic changes are expected to significantly increase the number of older patients, such positions have been rare at universities. 🤯 The response has been remarkable: half of all universities with medical programs in Germany have responded to our call for applications! Today, geriatrics has established itself as an academic subject in its own right, and many universities are training specialists in geriatric medicine – an achievement that is also due to our commitment. 👵🏽👨🏿🦳🧓🏻 ➡️ Find out more about 60 years of our history: https://lnkd.in/e3YFcRDB #BoschStiftung60 #Philanthropy | Bosch Health Campus
