Maya Rudolph joins me for today’s edition of my Deadline video series Behind the Lens, hot on the heels of returning to her old Saturday Night Live stomping ground as host. A highlight was no doubt the return of her dead-on impression of Beyoncé appearing on the show Hot Sauce, this time as a smash country music phenomenon.
We talk about that impression, several others and a wide-ranging career in comedy that now has added a new triumph, her Apple TV+ series Loot, which is getting renewed Emmy buzz for its second season. As executive producer, Rudolph not only has a say in what goes on in front of the camera but also behind the scenes. This is an area she increasingly has gotten involved with, including her own previous production company, Animal Pictures and a pending new one.
Rudolph talks about all this and more including her larger-than-life characters, favorites like Beyoncé and Kamala Harris, her vast work doing voiceover in countless animated projects, winning three Emmys as Connie the Hormone in Big Mouth. It is indeed a fun time this week as we talk all things Maya Rudolph, who takes us “behind the lens” of a career going strong.
