Emojis That Are Losing Steam Around The World, Visualized
Emojis have been around for decades, but in a recent survey, ten percent of men said they never use them. The stats don't lie: as we get older, we age out of emoji usage, and as the novelty of smartphone reactions wears off culturally, emoji useage might just plummet wholesale in the near future.
We aren't there just yet, but things are changing fast. Design service company Superside pulled data from Emoji Stats and Emoji Tracker to find the most popular emojis used, and then looked at the difference between their stats from 2013 to today using WayBack Machine.
Depending on where you live, it could be quite out of style to send that winking face.
The US and the UK have a shared emoji that's the most endangered: the smirking face β π. Among Europe nations, it's the face screaming in fear β π± and in Asia, Thailand was leading the divestment in the okay hand β π.
