We’re investing in a battery energy storage system at the same site as our Hornsea 3 Offshore Wind Farm. This will help provide stability to the UK energy system and reduce price volatility for consumers – because when it’s sunny and windy, the battery can store excess energy to be discharged later to help balance the grid. The battery energy storage system is supplied by Tesla Energy and has a capacity of 300 MW (or 600 MWh), equivalent to the energy used by 80,000 UK homes a day. The battery energy storage system is co-located with the onshore converter station for Hornsea 3 in the East of England. This location is key as it’s close to several offshore wind farms from which the system can take power. 👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/dfNVjfVs #offshorewind #renewables #renewablenergy #hornsea3 #batteryenergystoragesystems

Creating a world that runs entirely on green energy.
Om os
Ørsted’s vision is a world that runs entirely on green energy. We develop, construct and operate offshore and onshore wind farms, solar farms and energy storage facilities, bioenergy plants and provide energy products to our customers. A decade ago, we initiated our transformation from a black to a green energy company as DONG Energy. In 2017, we divested our upstream oil and gas business, thereby completing our transformation to become fully dedicated to green energy. Our transformation means that we’ve become too green for our name. DONG, originally short for Danish Oil and Natural Gas, is no longer an accurate description of who we are, or who we want to be. So now we’re Ørsted. Learn more about our history as DONG Energy on linkedin.com/DONGEnergy

What does South Fork Wind look like through the eyes of an artist? We talked with Kaarina Mackenzie, the painter who brought the first commercial-scale offshore wind farm in the US to life on her canvas. 👉 Learn more about South Fork Wind at: https://lnkd.in/d9bGuSFJ

We can’t take action for the climate without taking action for nature. And our actions won’t measure up unless we measure them. That’s why, this World Ocean Day, we’re launching a new way to track progress on our biodiversity ambitions. First, we led the industry by announcing a net-positive biodiversity target for all new renewable energy projects commissioned from 2030 onwards. And now, we’re setting a standard for transparency and accountability with our measurement framework. 👉Check it out at orsted.com/measuringnature. #WorldOceanDay #Biodiversity #ParisAgreement #GlobalBiodiversityFramework #RenewableEnergy

Look at this beauty! The world’s first service operation vessel (SOV) that can be powered by methanol has now set sail towards the final stretch of its construction phase before entering operations at Hornsea 2 – the world’s largest offshore wind farm in operation – later this year. We've secured this vessel from ESVAGT A/S – a strong example of how we’re working with our closest partners to decarbonise the offshore wind supply chain. Already now, an offshore wind farm has 99 % fewer life cycle emissions than a coal-fired power station. But we're not satisfied with that. We’re hard at work on that last percent, aiming for net-zero emissions across our full value chain by 2040.

Exciting news! We’re expanding our collaboration with Microsoft on a major deal for carbon removal. With Microsoft’s support, we’ll remove an additional one million tonnes of CO2 from our Avedøre Power Station in Denmark over the next ten years. This partnership accelerates our carbon capture and storage project, 'Ørsted Kalundborg CO2 Hub' and helps Microsoft progress towards its 2030 carbon-negative goal. 🤝 It’s a prime example of a strategic partnership driving sustainable solutions. Another major milestone for Revolution Wind! We’re pleased to have steel in the water, with the installation of our first wind turbine foundation. Revolution Wind is a 704 MW offshore wind farm that will provide enough clean energy to power more than 350,000 homes in Rhode Island and Connecticut in the northeastern US. The project is the latest example of our commitment to building a new American industry, creating jobs and drawing from our global experience.

Major news! This weekend, we christened the ECO Edison, the first-ever U.S.-made offshore wind service operations vessel. Thanks to our partner Edison Chouest Offshore for building this crucial ship, which will expand America’s offshore wind supply chain and support Ørsted’s offshore wind farms around the Northeast. https://lnkd.in/dQTYaJJt

At the end of April, we announced the inauguration of the Greater Changhua 1 and 2a offshore wind farms in Taiwan, our first near-gigawatt-scale offshore wind farms outside of Europe, doubling Taiwan’s installed capacity of offshore wind. With a total capacity of 900 MW, Greater Changhua 1 and 2a can produce enough renewable energy to power one million Taiwanese households a year, significantly contributing to the country’s green transformation. Check out the video for more stats about our offshore wind farms.

First wind turbine spinning at Gode Wind 3! We've now delivered first power from our offshore wind farm Gode Wind 3 to the German grid. The turbines at the offshore wind farm will have a capacity of 11 MW, making them the biggest in German waters to date. In total, we’ll install 106 wind turbines in the German part of the North Sea for our two offshore projects under construction, Gode Wind 3 and Borkum Riffgrund 3. Combined, the two offshore wind farms will have a capacity of more than 1.1 GW, which means they'll be able to supply the equivalent of approx. 1.2 million German households with renewable power. A big thank you to all colleagues and teams involved and to our partners Siemens Gamesa, Nuveen, a TIAA company, and Cadeler!

Q1 2024: Our operating profit of DKK 7.5 billion is in line with expectations, and our offshore site earnings are up by 18 %. Watch CEO Mads Nipper highlight the milestones that are moving our business plan forward, including: ✅ final investment decision on Sunrise Wind, which is set to become the largest offshore wind farm in the US once completed ✅ 7.6 GW of offshore wind under construction globally, including Hornsea 3, the world's single largest offshore wind farm A big thanks to all our colleagues and partners, working together to create a world that runs entirely on green energy.
